The red CRT tube is failing. They are rated at 3000 hrs of operation. Check the red CRT face to see if there is a lot of dirt on it or has a discoloration on the inside of the coolant chamber. These tubes are scarce and expensive. You may want to consider a new TV.

The Hitachi 46W500 has an Input button on the front of the TV. (This is the second button from the right. The right-most button is the Menu Button.) You should be able to press this repeatedly to switch between inputs. If the Front Panel Lock is engaged, you need a remote to unlock this. (Only the Power button works when the FPL is engaged.) A universal remote which has a code that matches that needed to get the Menu button to work will do the job. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Never replace all the resistors--that is a mistake.Real question here is: is convergence bad in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS BEFORE THE PARTS WERE REPLACED?The only nasty remaining possible thing is the DCU in the set is bad or you somehow cleared its memory of the adjustments.

Most problems that I experienced with most TV's with the on and off problems are problems on the power supply. Checked all the big capacitors. By just looking at them if the top part is bulging then those caps are not good and needs to be replaced. Over time those caps dried up and no longer function as such. Maybe you will find about 4 or more of these caps to be defective. Just try to compare them with the other caps around. But first, make sure you take the necessary precaution of high voltage on the circuit. Unplug the unit before you touch anything else inside. Hope this help.

Hello there. This is a really "easy" fix, all you have to know how to do is use a phillips screw driver! lol

First unplug the tv to reduce the chance of getting shocked. Remove the speaker cover, it'll pry off from end to end. Next, in front of the dvd player, you'll see several sets of screws; a couple of them will loosen the cover that has the dvd buttons on it and the other ones will loosen the cover for the dvd player. Once you get the button cover off, then you'll be able to get at the last screw that's on the dvd cover. Once that's off, then you'll see the actuall metal sub housing that the player sits in. Take off the four screws and simply pull the whole unit out. Be careful not to pull it too hard our all the way out as you'll have to undo four wiring harnesses from the rear of the player. After that, it comes out.

Now, I looked around and found this company that sells replacement dvd players; new and rebuilt. I called the company and talked with a young lady and ordered a rebuilt unit. There will be a core cost of $1 (meaning you'll have to send back your old unit to get back your $1). The new ones cost $259.45 and rebuilt cost $189.67. The part number is UE22181. I challenge all who want to do this to NOT waste your money on getting someone to do this for you if you have to pay a lot. I'm really mechanically inclined (I rebuild cars/engines as a hobby) and this on a scale of 1 to 10 is a .5. ;) Good luck.

Possible there is a shorting due to a component failure which triggers the current protection to trip off power. So what is needed is to remove the back panel and check if there a heating issue with any component, check the output drivers. Also check the +B on the board and if there is drop in the +B as the shunting trip comes on. If so identify and trace for the output drive-EHT/driver/ to be isolated. if the +B build up the fault is relative and so a continuity test will confirm.Also make sure that there is no sign of dry soldering joints and if so you must check if such oscillations are caused by poor joints.

The PSU goes to shut down because an internal error is detected. The clicking noise is a safety relay that keeps shutting PSU down to prevent more damage. The state is called protection.

In your situation the problem is likely the PSU itself. In some case it si possible to see that the PSU is defective because of the bulgy and leaking capacitors on board. In other cases it is necessary to test the PSU reading the different voltages out. The whole power supply is expensive ($250). The repair can be done repairing the board at component level (replacing capacitors and any part that will test faulty.

My Hitachi 46W500's DVD tray will not open. My son about 2 - 3 years ago said he had done something to he tray that may have caused this, is there any way to fix it at home ?

first your laptop MUST have some kind of video output connector, look for one of the following... VIDEO (yellow RCA type connector) or S-VIDEO (PS2 type connector) or VGA (15 pin blue female type connector) if you have one of these types than look for the same type on the TV, than it's just a matter of linking them together with the correct cable and selecting the correct input on the TV.

If the TV does not have a suitable connector that matches the one on the laptop, you can bye a converter (there not cheap) but they work from whatever type you have on the laptop to whatever type you have on the TV

Pleas provide more information on the two devices (laptop+TV) so I can tell you exactly what to do

The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.The tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignment,have colors shadows pictures or 3D pictures look alike.The tv convergence board have dead 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead too.These parts,must be replaced on the tv convergence board to solved the tv picture convergence problems.The shop,will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.

Remove the power off and let the set rest for about few hours. Now try out to see if the DVD releases.
If the picture is still with the old memory of thelast scene then the processor has hung up.
You must have to release the DVD by opening panel if a reset of an overnight power on the set does not work.

It Captioning 1,2,3 and Text 1,2,3 still on functioning.Check ur remote have a CC button press that button turn off all the Captioning like 1,2,3.Go into the menu look for captioning turn it all off,all the captioning like CC1,2,3 and Text 1,2,3 all to off.These black boxes,will not appear again in the middle of the screen.

Turn on the tv and using the remote go to the audio menu. There you will be able to see what may have happened. Begin by looking to see if the internal speakers are on. That is probably the solution. Joe

You cannot get AUDIO from Component Video, as it is only VIDEO, you must get another set of Cables RED & WHITE, and connect them from the AV, AUDIO Jacks, OUT on the "Sender" The DVD, Receiver etc, to the AV AUDIO IN on the TV. So you will have 5 Cables connecting BOTH Video & Audio. The Component Video, uses Blue, Green, & Red, these go color to color on the RCA Jacks at BOTH ends PLUS the Red & White Audio, color to color at BOTH ends. .Hope that clears things up.

the problem with your tv is convergence.the ics are bad part number STK-250,you need to replace both of them.also you need to check the low ohm resistors in that circuit.shops usually charge $250-$350 and can be done in your home.

2. remove the thing that block our dvd door (like paper, tissue, paperclip)

in my case. I knock the upper top of the dvd door hard (but not by hammer, by my hand) while i push open button (the menu open/'open' word is display at the menu). if u're lucky, the dvd door will open
