I'm sorry for the difficulties you're experiencing in viewing the pictures in full screen. Please set the Aspect Ratio Settings on the TV to Aspect Ration 1 as shown in the below picture to resolve the issue.

In a nutshell, the convergence ICs have failed. The cost to fix by a service company is likely about $300. You may find someone who does it on the side for around $150.

If you are happy with the picture, you like the tv, then $150 might be worth it.

It is possible to do this repair yourself if you have an electronics background.

you may have a dead or bad color gun. go thorough the convergence routine and see if all the colors are there. If your missing a color, you can purchase just that gun but I would advice that your replace all three. Be aware that this can be costly and in some cases you may have to purchase the whole pc board with the three color guns on it, depends on the model.

A pop means that a component inside the tv has failed the big way - it has exploded. The red button that blinks is the status light - it signals that a massive short has been detected and the power source of the tv has been forcefully shut down. The clicking comes from the source, it keeps trying to start so the protection system keeps shutting it down.
The failed component will have to be identified, replaced and the rest of the tv tested to check what other damage has occurred and fix it. This is a job for a pro, no way you can fix that yourself. Unplug the tv from the wall - leaving it powered only makes the damage greater - and call one.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

When you turn it on, does the red light sort of pulsate on and off?
Do you hear any odd sounds (a squeal, perhaps, as the red light flashes) coming from inside the set?


How old the unit is?

Take the back off the set and resolder new cord into the circuit board that the old cord came out of

I think this set uses 2 of the STK-392-120 chips but it is easy to tell. They are as you look from back on far right side on large metal with fins--either -120 or -110 chips.

This can be a do it yourself repair (parts on EBAY cost under 25 dollars total)

See attached photos of what the board should look like, the chips are the black parts with 18 pins each.

When u turn the tv on,u hear alot of clicking?That mean the Ballast that help the projection bulb to work is dead.Change the Ballast,might as well change the bulb too.U don't know what is the condition of the projection bulb in.

It seems that you have a clear case of dry/ poor soldering joints on some sections of the main board. Remove the main board, disconnect the power and use a good lamp to investigate. Use a good soldering iron to TOUCH up all the poor soldering joints, could be series resistors, Ic's , outputs drives, inductors or even connectors. Take time and do NOT be hasty to be careless and bridge up circuits to damage your set. Hence if not confident get a friendly technician to help with this advice. I m sure it will be solved. 3 reasons for this.

1st reason the fluid is contaminated and thats why u dont get red.

2nd reason no red drive possibly due to a bad colour driver on the base of the tube neck.

3rd reason the tube is out.
