Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Bad Convergence circuit , replace 2 STK392-110 & fuse will take care the problem

Hitachi 43FDX15B... | Answered on Mar 26, 2009

You should have put the original OEM STK's in the set - if your set had 110's or 120s put those chips only. Do not risk different chips with different specs/amps/ etc....when you do resistors blow as you have discovered.

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

did you ck fuses pico green

Try this procedure:

Adjust the green & blue CRT screens to match the red. Go into your picture menu adjust, turn color all the way down to a black & white picture. Now adjust each CRT screen so that you end up with a true black & white picture. Then adjust each focus control to get a sharp picture, and adjust each CRT focus one at a time for clarity by covering the other two up. Then go back into picture adjust and turn color half way up, you should see a better picture.

If you cannot get the blue & green to even out to a black & white screen you have other problems such as faulty CRT card on back of tube or it could even be that the video IC is faulty. If this is the case, then you may have to get a competent local technician to check the TV and get the necessary parts replaced. It could set you back between $200-$400, depending upon how many components need replacing.

You can also try a hard reset..Unplug all cables, including power from the back of TV. Wait for 4 hrs and reconnect them. Try and see if it works now.

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved or you are satisfied. If not, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can. Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating if your issue is not resolved after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can find a fix or an answer to your query.

If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! or Helpful rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Check the 120k resistor on the red video output module. Resistor is located parallel and in front of the video output transistor heat sink. Failure can occur with blue and green also.

Usually when your convergence ICs go they take out 1 or 2 resisitors right next to the Ics. The tower your refering to is a capacitor. it should have a rating stamped on it such as 50uf @50 etc. Hope this helps

Phil, from your description it sounds like your convergence IC`s are about to fail, the intermittent off/on cycle is because as they heat up there drawing too much current, the bowed collapse tells me it`s the vertical convergence IC that`s the culprit. You need to get a tech out asap to fix this or they could short and take out the power supply as well and that`s just mooore money to fix it, hope this answers your question, BMW Rider

Go into your customer menu to closed caption and turn off the "text" mode... What you're seeing is a text box from closed caption but unless you have that additional service it will just me a black square...

The most likely cause for this is a problem with the convergence circuit. This consist mainly of 2 ICs and a set of resistors. It does take some skils with soldering and electronics to replace the ICs and resistors. The 'convergence kit' is available from some web based electronic stores which includes 2 ICs - STK392-150 and a set of resistors. The authorized Hitachi supplier is Tritronics, but may be available at your local electronics supply stores. Hope this helps. clickace

It sounds like you have High Voltage arc, coming from back of set. Was there ever Horzontal lines in picture when this happen. Or did your picture ever get dark and miss some color? If any of this happen then it could be coming from High Voltage Transformer, and anodes leads coming from trans.I would say clean spark gap anode leads and make sure all are seated properly(tighten). It would help if you could have the back open and notice when the set does this to see if you see sparks and were from. Hope this helps. Remember be carefull around any Voltage.

depending on the age of your set ,it might only be solder connections, or it could br a deflection to convergence problem.

There are many small fuses on this set. Did he replace? and what board did he replace Small Deflection or signal? No sound and pic and beeps mean that standby is trying to work. Look for power supply problems and vertical problems Also audio problems, Meaning IC's of all first.
