Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

This has happened a couple of times--no big deal, it just seems to need "re-booting". Try holding 'home' button and 'sleep' button at the same time for 15-30 seconds. That should do it.

It sound like you have a convergence problem, not shure,
need more info is your set a rear crt projector style if so then, check for the fuses to see if the sypply to the convergence board +/- 40 volt about is there, check the two convergence ic's they should have the part # stk392 xxx mean's there the one causing the problem ,,,,,, turning any type of dial think you may resolve your problem think again, this will only cause more at the end, you'l see.

Regards

What about Bob

This is an indication of convergence issues. There are two ic chips that control this and there is a likely hood of there failure and need to be replaced. there possible other issues with ouput resistors and fuses. At my shop the cost to replace these chips are 200 to 350. not a too difficult repair.

check the solder connections on the audio output ICs and also around the external sound connections often the ground trace will develope a solder crack and will cause a loss of sound.
