Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hi:
Have a service center check the Horizontal deflection scan caps for poor solder connection and possible bad scan capacitors.
I want to recycle this panasonic rear projection
as far as i can tell no one cares about recycle ing these profligate and gigantic televisions. In my green leader town of austin tx. there is no way to do it. ive been looking for a week. im going to have to dump it in a creek because i cant afford to pay for its removal.

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to
replace the convergence IC and also check the power resistor, if values are not
exact you have to replace them. These ICs are located behind the black heat
sink; you can see once you open the back off the TV. The convergence board
should be checked for cracked solder joints and please make sure to check the
resistors as if they are shot the ICs might blow again. All this is only
recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder
components, if not then you should get this done by a professional. The typical
cost to get this fixed by a pro is around $250-$300. Please do accept the
solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks

The color just went out on my tv - it is only
There's a few things you can try - change the source or how the source is hooked up. If you are hooked to satelite or cable box (source) try hooking hooking up to the tv (video 1or2 input) with video cables (RCA type -red.wht, Yel) from your source. Also try seeing if you have color when you play a DVD (if available). If it doesn't matter which source you use or how you hook it up you still have no color than the problem is internal to the TV.
These sets have a common problem with an internal comb filter circuit that can cause no color - but it usually also causes distotion in the oicture as well
Hope this helped, be sure to rate/vote for me if it did
I have a Hitachi Ultravision 61SBX59B TV.
that white line is a high voltage leak have you had this set serviced lately? one of the hv lines from the flyback transformer
is not seated or leaking you need a tech to find it not a safety issue just an anoyance
Hitachi Ultrabright Focus Issues...please help!
First I would check dry solder joints on convergence section of TV and would resolder all dry dry/ cold solder joints found there. If that does not solve red color misalignment then problem is failure of convergence out IC as TV has pair of IC, STK392-110 mounted on big silver heat sink on main board needs to be replace both IC and required IC is available in
Part Store (click link to have price info and an image of IC)
You can replace ICs by yourself if you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can solder parts in circuit board and have necessary tools to do so.
If you feel uncomfortable doing this, call local TV tech to fix TV that would charge $150 or so for repairing excluding parts.
Thanks.
TV will not turn on.
It seems as though the power board on your unit went out. I will just assume that you are not currently under warranty. If you are your manufacturer can actually set up a replacement order or have an on site tech come to your home to service the repair of your unit.
