The problem you have mentioned is caused due to loss of high-voltage. We have to perform a component level diagnosis to get to the source of the problem. Which begs the question how good are your electronics soldering skills? Do o you have a multimeter handy? Can you follow the schematics in a service manual(with my help ofcourse)

Double images or halos
Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.
The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

Hitachi 50UX53K Ultravision will not stay on
The set is going into shut down mode for avariety of reasons. Some of the more common problems are vertical o/p ic bad connection or failure, poor solder connection usually in the power or hv section or possibly comb filter circuit breakdown causing 12V line to short. This set incorporate 7 or more shut down circuits and any one of them could be triggering - more trouble shooting is required

We have blue ghosts with brilliant colors
This sounds like the most common thing that fails on projection TV's, regardless of the brand. The
convergence circuit has two STK392-110 IC chips mounted on
heat sinks to drive the convergence yokes. They typically last anywhere from 5-10 years, then they fail. A more robust part is now available (STK392-150) as a direct drop-in replacement. My shop has installed these IC's in hundreds of projection sets and had fewer than 1% of them come back with repeat failures. Also check the following low-ohm feedback resistors to make sure they did not go out of tolerance:
-
RK42: 2.7
-
RK46: 2.2
-
RK58: 3.9
-
RK52: 3.3
-
RK50: 3.3
-
RK54: 2.2

Lost power
The symptom you have needs to be looked at by a qualified technician for proper diagnosis. There are 9 LED`s ( 8 green, 1 red) in the power supply that light up under normal condition. These LED`s are used to help pinpoint the area of trouble. For example, when power is applied all LED`s but one lights up. The unlit LED may indicate the +27 volt source is bad. That will alert the technician to check components related to the +27v line. Since there are 8 green LED`s and 1 red, each having multiple suspects leads us to Mr Spock`s comment to captian Kirk." there are endless possibilities"
