Blue Blotches on the screen

Remove the front screen and look directly into all three crt,s and see if the ethylene glycol has become contaminated or has leaked from any of the face of the tubes.

I have a convergence problem that is making the tv

I assume you mean that the convergence function from the menu doesn't have any effect. Are the colors separated and kind of bowed? If so you have bad convergence IC chips. They are not very expensive ($35-60). The old ones have to be de-soldered and removed and the new ones soldered in. If you have experience with soldering and electronics it is tedious but not hard. A shop will charge $300 and up for this repair. Once done you can expect the new ones to last at least as long as the originals.
If you would like more help on this please post a comment back here.

Hitachi 53fdx20b picture is red

This is a set first made in 2002. I have seen a few of them with too much red.

Most likely what is wrong is the RED SCREEN CONTROL. It is located behind the front grill assembly at the front of the set. Screws usually secure it from the back on either side and then it pulls off--held by pegs usually.

Behind it is an inspection plate with several screws. Behind that is a BLACK block about 3 inches square with six controls(everything is black) One row of three will be marked FOCUS--stay away from those. The other row will be marked SCREEN.

With a flashlight you will have to look closely at the two rows of controls--they will have r,g,b marked next to them. (red, green, blue)

If you go to a Black and white program and the background is redish etc--take the set to a unused Video input2_bing.gif and after you locate the RED SCREEN CONTROL turn it slowly (less than 1/8 of a turn) to the left---the idea is to adjust just until the screen does not show red---on a blank input it should be black.

Double check it on a Black and White program and then if it was the problem the color should now be normal.

These sets did have some problems with that Screen /Focus block going bad--the entire block costs under 25 dollars and all the wires on the back of it plug in; if you have to keep adjusting it over a short period of time replace it or live with it.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for Free.

It appears as if there are three pictures as if

This is a convergance board issue, it could be out of allighment or going out period, there is no way of telling without look at the set locally. But if the board needs to be replaced your looking aroung $200 bucks for the part the labor would be depending on where you go to have it fix or whomever comes out.

The tech would run the convergence setup on the TV now if that setup fails and it does not line up you looking at a convergence board repair or changeout.

Again someone would need to come out to repair this it cannot be done via email or chat but we can tell you the issue in hopes you would save money on estimates and other repairs that is not needed.

I do Thank you for allowing me to discuss your issue with you and hope you would ACCEPT my advice.

Sag in top left side screen

Are you describing a CONVERGENCE problem? Picture is bowed or looks threeD----red or blue are out of place?

If this is what you have go into the customer menu and select convergence and look there--if either red or blue is off and will not move--you have a convergence problem.

I know a lot about this set---I have fixed hundreds of them with this kind of problem.

Confirm the problem to me and I will give you options--first on what is involved for you to repair it yourself and if you cannot I have other suggestions.

I am here to help

Hitachi convergence seems to be bad, but all

I know this set very well, have fixed hundreds of Hitachi sets with convergence problems--

first--did you just go into the customer menu?

There are two ways to get into the tech convergence mode on most of these sets---if the set has "MAGIC FOCUS" PRESS the button the front panel---while magic focus is running press magic focus again --if STOP is displayed on the screen press either RECALL OR STATUS BUTTON ON THE REMOTE--set will go to the tech convergence mode--take a good look there ---if red or blue is skewed most likely one or both of the 2 STK-392-110 CHIPS THIS SET USES IS BAD--NO WAY TO TEST THEM--IF RESISTORS ARE ALL GOOD--you have to replace BOTH chips to see if one is your problem.

You can also get into the tech convergence mode by removing the front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it----there is a tiny micro switch on the front of the board (little blue button) with something not metal--touch it with the set on and you will be in the convergence mode.

I presume you know how to navigate with the remote in this mode 2,4,6.8 to move--ant to select blue and 0 to select red---enter button will stop blinking cursor and you use the ARROW CURSORS to adjust---DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS---

What you are looking for is will the "bent" lines adjust.

If the answer is no--change the two chips and see what you have--The STK-392-110 chips can also be replaced with STK-392-150 chips---they are a longer life version of the original chip.

If you need help doing the repair ask me before you begin.

Double image almost like 3D is there an

This is a model first sold in 2002---if it is 3d it means one of the two convergence chips (IC's) is bad.

This set uses 2 of the STK-392-110 chips--they and any protect resistors around them that are bad need to be replaced and the set adjusted with the Hitachi remote.

I do not know if you can do this repair--consider that you can buy the pair of chips and any parts needed for less than 20 dollars--most shops charge 300-400 for this kind of repair...

Do you know how to solder if I tell you how to get at the parts etc?

Magic focus will not work if either of the chips is bad. After the set is repaired it will not have this problem again for 5-8 years---normal life span on these parts.

Let me know if you need help or advice--I am here to help people---

Hitachi 53FDX20B Rear won't turn on and LED's Flashing

I believe they are the voltage supplies for the TWO convergence IC's that this set uses(either STK-392-110 OR STK 392-150---THEY are interchangeable--but the 150 is a better device)

The easiest way to prove if this is your problem is to locate the two chips (black--2 1/2 inch wide X 1 1/2 inch tall with the STK number printed on them IN WHITE)

If someone unsolders all 18 pins on each chip--see if the set will turn on with them out of the circuit (you do not have to remove them--just unsolder both---If the set comes on the convergence will be very bad but you will know one of the chips is bad.

Also if you look at all the resistors around them (most will have location number RK46 etc) see if any of them are discolored or burnt. You find a burnt resistor and it is a sure bet onE of the chips is bad.

A pretty easy repair if you have good soldering skills and I can tell you what you will need to do the repair.
If replacement of the chips fixes the set it just needs to be adjusted with the Hitachi remote and should not have this problem again for 5-8 years.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, do not hesitate to ask me---I am here to help people.

Hitachi 53fdx20b and it has a wave acrost the top

Yes - You will need to either remove the circuit board or lift up the tray. If you are not sure how to do it yourself read the link below.

  • This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
You can see some example photos and find a solution here...

Color shift

Most likely you have a loose solder connection on your CRT socket. Since it looks too pink it most likely on the green gun.

I hope this helps.
If you want to try to fix this yourself, post back to this and I will be able to walk you through some of the steps to get it repaired.

I would also recommend that you contact a local servicer for a quote.

It powers up but no picture? In my experience with Hitachi TV's this has been an issue with the convergence IC's failing. You will need to have a technician replace those if needed.
