First have the convergence IC's replaced these are the two large black IC's mounted on an metal heat sink.

Almost any remote will work for this set if it is Hitachi--understand----if you have one of the two STK-392-120 CHIPS THAT THIS MODEL USES BAD--It will not adjust....

All of the Hitachi remotes will work but different ones use different buttons in the convergence mode--if the model is 43fwx20b it uses a Hitachi remote with the number CLU-4321UG... printed on the front of it.

If you get a different Hitachi remote let me know--I have a book from Hitachi that shows most of the remotes by number and photo and shows which buttons do what in convergence.

Let me know if you need to know how to replace the chips-----usually you can get a remote for this type of set pretty cheap on Ebay.....

The most likely cause is a bad (shorted or open) CRT driver transistor on the green CRT board. Also check the solder connections on the connector sockets for wires that get plugged into on the CRT boards (and check all the CRT boards; not just the green CRT Board).

The next most-likely cause is a bad green CRT. Try tapping (gently!) on the neck of the green CRT and see if you get any green flashing on the screen. If so, then you've got a bad green picture tube.

Note: I am assuming you are an electronic technician with at least basic knowledge of electronics, and that you know how to solder and test components like resistors, capacitors, diodes, and transistors. If not, you better defer this repair to someone more experienced.

OK--for a Hitachi this set is a little unusual---it uses two of the STK-392-120 CONVERGENCE CHIPS.

Oneor both are bad(usually just one) You need to replace both and anydiscolored resistors around them--all the resistors have locationnumbers and if any are even slightly discolored you need to replacethem and both chips---You can buy a pair of these chips on Ebay forless than 13 dollars plus shipping.

If you remove the back cover (unplug the set first!) look at the circuit boardon the far right side----about 4 inches wide and about 12 inchesdeep---the chips are on the far right side on the large metal piecewith fins.

If you look and find any of the resistors behind them(on the left side of the metal with fins) discolored---note thelocation number printed on top of the circuit board under them (RK46etc) and I can tell you the exact value of that part--most of theresistors that fail are low value and can be tested just like afuse--It is important to find any bad resistors as if you replace thechips and miss any open resistors the set will still have the sameproblem.

THIS IS A EASY SET TO DO THIS REPAIR ON IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SOLDER---I CAN GIVE YOU INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU NEED THEM.

THISKIND OF REPAIR TAKES ABOUT 1 HOUR--THEN YOU ADJUST THE SET WITH THEORIGINAL REMOTE--set should be good to go without having this troublefor 5-8 years.

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400

you need to change the convergence chips that are attached to a heat sink, they are the two black chips with a lot of legs on them.

Sounds like the convergence needs adjustment. You can do this through the menu-follow the on screen instructions. The idea is to line up the red, green, & blue.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit board or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.

Yes - You most likely created a short by soldering the convergence chip pins together. Go back over your soldering and fix any bad spots. No two pins should be touching.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Look for hidden screws in the board... that's all I can say from experience. Plus, for the three red HV leads, Push down into the block and turn. This should release them if there is no other visible means of mechanical retention.

It is failure of convergence out ICs causing 3-D type picture on screen, you need to replace two big ICs in convergence section on main board.

Symptom shows that it is problem of Convergence Out IC failure and that part will be replaced for correct picture results.

If you wish to repair TV yourself then you should have electronics knowledge, TV repair experience and should know how to solder parts on circuit board.

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Line on left side of pix,? It sounds like you have a high voltage leak. Check all high voltage cables and make sure that they seated firmly, all of those big red cables.

Hi, it needs convergence IC`s and possibly a few low Ohm resistors, not an easy fix for a layperson, usually costs 250- 300.00, hope this answers your question, if not e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider

You are missing either red drive signal to CRT or you have a cold / fractured solder joint on the television. Also with the set unplugged check with a non metalic object like a ruler or a wooden spoon and start tapping around in the front or back of set and see what happens.
