Tv power (redlight will come on powering the TV then back off

If the model here listed is correct it may be the actual power switch--it like all the front controls is a tiny micro switch--only supposed to work when pressed but can and does fail in this way--How to prove/disprove this?Someone needs to remove the front keyboard and unsolder that 2 pin switch---remote will with the board back still turn set on.If it works that way either just use the remote or search for the keyboard and replace if can find one.Only other issue possible is the microprocessor in the set could be bad and we do not want that-----both the front buttons on set and the remote go to the same place inside the set but the keyboard has priority over the remote. If power button bad, button on the remote will not stop or correct this.SD TECH

No sound on tv

Hello, there are so many reasons why your TV won't bring out sound. You need to troubleshoot first, in order to get to the root of the problem, before a solution can be proffered.First, connect a DVD player to the TV, observe if there is going to be sound. If there is still no sound after connecting the DVD player to the TV, proceed to the next step. "The reason why I asked you to connect a DVD player to the TV is to confirm if the problem is simply not from the audio cord connected to the TV."Second, get an headset, connect it to the earphone jack of the TV and observe if there is going to be sound. If there is no sound, then it is glaring now that your TV is having a defective sound card/IC that's why it is not bring out any sound. (Note that connecting an headset to your TV is optional because not all TV's has a space for headset). "The reason why I asked you to connect an headset to the TV is to also confirm if problem is not from the TV speaker. Though TV speaker problems are rare but sometimes, the TV speaker might be defective or the speaker wires may have loosed contact or cut into two, due to one reason or the other. But if the headset doesn't bring out any sound from the TV, then it is not so."If none of the above seems not to be the cause of the problem, then the above troubleshooting has confirmed that the TV has got a defective sound card/ic. The sound IC/card of the TV has to be replaced for the TV to bring out sound again. To be honest with you, replacing or fixing the sound card/ic of your TV requires the ability or experience to do so.Now, if you are convinced you can fix or replace this yourself, please reply so that i can help you further. And make sure you troubleshoot first, before getting back to me.Regards.

I have a Hitachi 53swx10b. The sound is starting

There is not an easy fix for this problem with this model. This set uses a surround sound audio board that processes all audio. Our shop no longer repairs the boards as it can be very time consuming and usually we send the board out to a national company for rebuild.Problem is solder connections on tiny flat pack parts on both sides of the board break and I saw several where set was only months old, at that time Hitachi sold the board but it is no longer available from themThe Rebuilders (last time I used them) charged about 200 including shipping as you have to remove the board and send it in. Removal of the board is not hard and I can tell you where to look for it.Sorry if this is bad news but it is what your problem is.Let me know if you have questions as I am here to help.SD TECH

Was watching my Hitachi 53SWX10B

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom (look for discoloration of the circuit board around the base of the capacitor) need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the unit will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and/or inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are SURE it's only doing supply output ripple filtering,
and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm51C_RDIZE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNHHrgX_6cs&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l0AUj8QUkg&NR=1&feature=fvwp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7b_nTaZYcU&feature=related

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors, amplifiers, computer power supplies and motherboards, and other electronic equipment.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.
A great parts source is Digi-Key, and you can order the parts online at www.digikey.com
They typically cost under a dollar a piece plus a flat shipping rate.
The parts usually arrive one business day later.
If you watch the third video, you will see that even someone with no soldering experience can perform these repairs as demonstrated by the woman in the video.

The picture is very blury

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

My picture looks almost 3D, even after using the Magic Focus

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

69189a5.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Make sure the speakers are turned on. In the audio section of the main menu, under advanced settings there is a box labelled "internal speakers". Make sure this box is checked. I hope this helps. Thanks for using fixya.

I have a Hitachi 53SWX01b tv and are getting blue

This model uses two of the STK-392-110 or 150 convergence IC's---if magic focus will not correct it or if Blue will not move in the convergence mode--both chips along with any resistors that protect them need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

You can buy the parts for this repair for less than 25 dollars total. The question is are you able to do the repair?

With the back off of the set(unplug set first) the chips will be as you look from the back on the right side--they are Black and about 2 1/2 inches wide X 1 1/2 inches tall with 18 pins each---they will have the Stk number printed on them in white.

To do this repair you need to be able to get at the chips and unsolder/replace them and also check all the resistors around them--any resistor near them that is discolored or white in the middle is bad.

I usually check all the resistors there when I do this type of repair--I have done hundreds of these sets. It usually takes about 1 hour to do it.

If you CANNOT DO this repair--shop around in your area as most shops charge 300-400 for this repair--if the say it has to go to the shop----keep looking--any good tech can do this repair in your home.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ADVICE, do not hesitate to let me know--I am here to help people----FYI, in my area I do this repair for 200-250 total in the home of the customer.

These are very good sets and much more dependable then the Plasma and LCD sets---not to mention it is much cheaper to repair it than replace it.

After the repair the set should not have this problem for 3-5 years and many sets go 8 years or more.

Regards, SD TECH

Color on Panasonic 2004 is off and appears to be warped

It sounds like a convergence problem; most of these sets use two convergence IC chips that both need to be replaced; usually this can be done right in your home.

Picture format

The HD reciever shouldn't be the problem.

If you recieve an image with a 4:3 aspect ratio, the image will be displayed at that ratio on your HDTV unless you specify otherwise. To do so go to your TV's Setup screen

setup
Choose picture formats
select smooth wide as your default

***Some digital (ATSC format) stations may transmit 4:3 images in a way that will not allow expansion. You will be unable to adjust the picture format.

Hope this helps!!!

53swx10b bowed picture

Double check your work for errors such as solder bridges or incorrect resistor placement. Look carefully anywhere solder could have dripped or splattered to cause the bowing. If you entered the digital convergence mode to touch it up, you will have to re initialize the magic focus for it to function. Good luck
