Hello
VGA and DVI are not compactable. Your TV has no provision to connect it to computer.

DVI-HDTV Input (Input 1)

Use this DVI-HDTV Input for your external devices with DVI-HDTV output such as a Set-Top-Box, high-band DTV decoders, DVD
players and D-VHS with Digital Content Protection

1. Only DTV format such as 1080i, 720p, 480i and 480p are available for DVI-HDTV input.

2. The DVI-HDTV input is NOT compatible when used with a DVD player from a personal computer.

3. When connecting a Set-Top-Box with a copy-protect digital out terminal, a high definition picture can be displayed
on the screen in its digital form
OK.

Picture is dark with a green outline on objects.

http://www.eserviceinfo.com/index.php?what=search2&searchstring=Hitachi+57F500

Above is your service and repair manual. to download and print out, you will need this if you decide to DIY (NOT recommended), and in any event the repairer will be extremely appreciative of a copy, and it will expedite any repairs that need to be made. (A good engineer should have one at hand, however it can never hurt to provide it.)

Now whenever a screen is dark etc, we must always suspect that the Voltage that is suppling it is too low, for whatever reason. Often it is because the SMPSU is faulty, or a component(s) are faulty, and drawing too much current, and thus dropping the Voltage. The fact it get darker indicates that the fault worsens with time and heat no doubt. (may be finadable with freeze spray?)

RP TV's are notoriously difficult to repair due to their basic over-complexity. We engineers quite dislike RP TV's and I for one would NEVER recommend that one ever purchase one, for a myriad of reasons. Plasma or LCD LED TV's in the larger sizes are a much better option, and if one must have a GIANT screen, then a good projector is a better bet.

I'm my professional opinion the absolutely best thing to do, is to contact Hitachi, either the head or a local office, and ask them for a referral to an Authorised servicing center. Either take it to them or ask for a service call. Now when in contact, ask for a "Quote" for the repair before allowing any repair work to be undertaken. This way you can then make an informed decision as to what to do, repair or replace. (Often clients prefer to put any large amounts of monies, that would have been outlaid on any repairs, towards a new/used modern set, with a warranty)

You see these days with sets such as this often the cost of repairs can quickly approach the cost of a NEW comparable unit, with a warranty. As an aside here, statistics tell us that a unit over 3 years old IF repaired this unit, will usually fail again within the next 6 to 12 months anyway, with a differing problem, or a repeat of the same/similar. (This is usually due to the stresses on "Other" .component already slightly damaged.)

We cannot get the color

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Where do i get a new remote

You can get a replacement remote for your Hitachi 57F500 TV at the following site,
http://www.replacementremotes.com/store/prodthumbs.cfm?categoryid=46&ns=1&keyword=57F500&x=15&y=15

Click on the pictures of either remote for ordering instructions and price.

If you need something right now, you can get an universal remote, available at most
electronic stores, although it may not perform as well as a factory replacement.
It also may not work on your model and brand TV.

Please do us a favor and rate this solution after reading.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Recieving no power even though plugged into good

Hello
Ofcourse there is a fuse in the AC track of every TV. But if fuse must blow, there must be some reson for that. Fuse is included in the path of AC as a protecion to the circuit for over voltage of over current. Just look inside, and confirm the fuse is blown or not. If blown, find out the reason for that and tectify it before placing an other fuse in place. Otherwise, the fuse you replaces will also blow out. OK.

Something happened with the sound.

Hi,

The sound settings in the sound set-up menu are different and saved for each input (video one, cable, etc.). Go to the sound set-up menu and select stereo and speakers on. Save settings if that choice is offered. You may have accidentally changed settings for one input to SAP or speakers off.
