Is my tv digital already or do I need a converter?

Your TV does have a digital tuner in it already. Also a converter box is only needed if you use an Antenna to recieve TV. So if you have Cable or Satillite, you will not need a box at all.

Hitachi 51g500 screen gone black

Yes worth repairing but not a crt problem. the crt's are powered by a high voltage transformer and sometimes it's caps that goes bad and in turn knocks out the crt's. but they are ok, it's in the high voltage line.

51' projection tv(Hitachi 51G500A)

The Hitachi part number for the screen assembly for the 51G500a is KR02844. You can call a Hitachi parts distributor and see for yourself how much those things cost, but I warn you they are not cheap!

51G500 51 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television went black white why?

It does not have a "color" tube, the model here appears to be a set with 3 picture tubes---do yourself a favor and unplug it and a box if used or a receiver if in the line--wait a bit and power back to see if the units connected will reboot. Also remember to check all the inputs to see if any have color: if using the cable wire direct to a set hook a DVD etc to one of the rear audio video inputs to see if same problem there.Let me know what you find--I answer about 400 questions here each week but try hard to help anyone who responds or needs more help.

Has a black screen. The screen slowly went from dark to darker, then went to dark. I have a Hitachi CLU-572TSI projection tv

Not likely a do it yourself repair---loss of the filament voltage (6.3 volts) in the power supply of the set (some had issues where a resistor changes value).

I have a hitachi 51g500a convergence problem i

you can and should use two of the same; the 150 and 110 are identical except the 150 is a higher current device.I usually replace both with the 150; be sure to remove all the old white heat sink compound and apply fresh as well as checking all the low value resistors around the two chips.Let me know if you need help or have questions.SD TECH

The power is not coming on, and when it does it

Bypassing the V-Chip Lock
After you set the lock, you need your passcode to view a V-Chip locked program, view the locked TV, cancel the lock, or enter the V-Chip Lock menus. If you forget your passcode, you can view the locked TV without entering your passcode. This is done by pressing the number 9 and QV buttons on the TV remote control at the same time, when your passcode is requested. This process temporarily unlocks the TV. When entering the V-Chip Lock menu, this process deletes your old passcode and prompts you to enter a new passcode.Press HOME to exit the menu.

The grid on manuel convergence is locked w/wavy lines on the red

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

e87380c.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

69189a5.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Need to know how to go cable free. Have TERK digital antenna

Shouldn't do, just connect the antennas into the Belling-Lee TV antenna socket at rear of set, tune channels. If you antenna won't fit, you may need an "F" connector to "Belling-Lee" converter plug. You will need an "Ordinary" Yagi VHF/UHF antenna installed though. Is that what that digital one is?

I have a Hitachi 51G500 and there is sound but not

Is it connected to an antenna? Is it all channels? Can you play a DVD? Is the contrast too high? Can you access the onscreen controls? I have the 57" model and cannot figure anything else, currently -- the manual does give any suggestions.

Double images

This model uses two convergence IC's----if 3 D one or both are bad.

Most of the time this set uses either two of the STK-392-110 OR THE STK-392-150 CHIPS.

Both chips and any bad protection resistors around them need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

If you are able to do the repair yourself total parts cost will be under 30 dollars.

Some history for you:
This set like all rear projection2.gif tube type sets uses two chips---the ones in your set are Black in color--about 2 1/2 inches wide X 1 1/2 inches tall and are on either one large or two smaller heat sinks2.gif with fins on them.

When the chips are installed a white grease called heat sink2.gif compound is applied to the metal back of each---the grease transfers heat from the chip quickly to the metal it is bolted to.

After some years the grease dries out from the heat and one of the chips goes instantly.

You can buy a pair of the chips for your set on Ebay for less than 15 dollars plus shipping--

If you cannot do the repair yourself--shop around your area---most shops charge 300-400 for this type of repair. Whoever you get to do it make sure BOTH chips are replaced or you will have the same problem in a few months.

If you open the set and locate the chips---they will have the full STK number printed on them in white letters----there are about 12 resistors around them that need to be looked at--if any are discolored they need to be replaced.

If a shop says it HAS TO GO TO THE SHOP keep looking as any good tech can do this repair right in your home in about 1 hour---I know as I have done hundreds of them.

IF you can solder and are handy I will give you general instructions on how to do the repair and what you need---some people I talk to can either do it or have a friend who can do it for them---let me know

I can tell you what you will need aside from the parts and how to proceed with the fix---

If all this helped rate this solution---I do this here for free.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ADVICE LET ME KNOW--I am here to help people.

Regards, SD TECH
