iRiver iHP-140 MP3 Player Questions & Answers
Hallo, is there a link for an online guide that
Hi, 1) Make sure the player is switched off and the hold switch is on.
2) Remove the screw from each side cover.
3) Remove the 4 screws from each end cap and then remove end caps.
4) The rear cover and side covers can now be removed and the battery removed from the rear cover.
Note: The battery will most likely to be stuck to the rear cover and care should be taken not to put excessive force onto the battery wires when removing the cover. The internal microphone is mounted on one of the side covers and care should also be taken with it so as not to damage the wires.
5) The hard drive can now be removed by lifting and gently pulling it out.
6) Remove the six screws holding the mother board to the front cover. the circuit board may now be removed.
It is a good idea to take note of the routing of the battery wires before removing the mother board.
7) Disconnect the molex plug from the board , this is made easier by lifting the rear of the plug as you remove it.
8) check the polarity of the new battery is the same as the original (they are rarely wrong and need changing).
If it requires changing the terminals can be released by lifting the tags as shown here in the h3xx battery replacement thread.

9) Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly taking note of the following:
a) Check the battery wires are correctly routed to avoid pinching and damage.
b) Check the hold switch slide is aligned with the switch when refitting the side cover.
Have a nice day......

i think your hard drive is dead. im not an expert but the same thing happened to me and i got it sorted with a new hard drive.
Repair
Its probably not worth repair as damage has already been done. You should have the owners or operators manual and that should have if case of trouble section to guide ya to the right place for repair. Now if you want get a full can of a spray called tuno wash with no lubercant in it. First off make sure its not gonna harm the palstic case by spraying a little on the back cover and let it stay there to see if any mis shapeing or melting occurs. Next if you can take off the back of the player and with the batteries out start spraying out the unit till you think you have saturateded the whole unit. Put it aside for an hour or so shaking out any excess liquid. Now put back the batteries and see what happens??? If it cleaned out the corrosion then good . If it didnt change anything or dosent work at all then your no worse off. Really when you first know that you spilt anything no matter how much water or liquid inside anything electronic, right away take out the batteries or unplug unit, and let it dry out of a day or so. Good Luck
Did I fry my player or can it be fixed
Open the player and test for battery's voltage. In case of a low voltage measurement, you should replace the battery.I don't want to be cruel with you but, maybe that the player power circuit was damaged as well, and in this case it should be repaired by a certified technician (I realy hope for you that this is not the situation).
Good luck !!!
Formating problems
The H140 needs to be formatted as a fat32 file system for the players firmware to recognise it.
To check which file system you have formatted to connect your player to your pc and go to > my computer >right click on your player > then click on properties. It will tell you what file system you have. Windows will only format to ntfs file systems, so if you need to reformat you will need to download Swissknife http://www.compuapps.com/download/Swissknife/swissknife.htm (its free :-) )and use it to reformat your player.
Plugged my iHP-140 into a 6V power supply
Not a solution I'm afraid - I have exactly the same problem and did it in the last few days.
I will come back to let you know if I find a solution - if you find one please post it here too.
