Turn tv on get a

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV. Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired ofcourse) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companiesPhilips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failedin 2-5 years instead of 10-20. Thecapacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in allsorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems. Here are some options for you. 1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is itunder warranty?) Remember, TVs CONTAINHIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk. 2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cordplugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad capsreplace the entire board. The entireboard costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though. 3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill. Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourselfit will save you hundreds. This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be. I have a Tip/How TO tutorialon this site that may also help. Itgives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this isyour board you are in luck. Here is theLink: Fixingthe Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to helpguide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help. Hope this helps and if it does please rate itaccordingly. Good luck.Kaufman605

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.

See attached photos, this board is from a set just like yours. The two black ICs with the STK392-110 MARKED on the front of them will need to be replaced and the resistors in front of them inspected to see if any are burnt/discolored.

This is a fairly easy set to do this on, total parts cost on Ebay would be under 25 dollars.

The best way in this set is to remove the board, access will be from front of set.

I can tell you what is involved to get at the board and remove it. It does involve soldering as each of the two chips has 18 pins.

Look at the photos and let me know if you have questions or need advice.

Picture went out and the tv comes on but no

If it's failing to turn on, the main power supply is probably at fault and without some technical background and a couple of test instruments, you will not be able to do the repair yourself.
What you can do though is; unplug the set, let it stand overnight or at least several hours, remove the back panel and look for a separate board with mostly larger components on it; it will have a ferrite core (no laminations as with a line-frequency part) transformer on it and several larger capacitors which are cylindrical and mounted vertically to the board.

Before touching anything inside, especially on that board, allow several hours to be safe since the larger capacitors can hold a painful voltage charge for some hours.

If you see signs of overheating such as discoloration of the board material, the PSU may not be repairable but if you can find a part number on the board, you might be able to buy the power supply from the mfr. and install it yourself but it will likely have the same problem eventually unless they have altered the design or improved component quality.
If there are no signs of heat damage to the board, there may be companies offering to repair it as a subassembly instead of repairing the whole set which could be much more expensive.
If you choose to replace or have it done, the main power supply still may not be at fault since most are capable of switching off if a downstream problem is causing an overload .

I am unsure which model

Hi,

From the information you have provided the problem is with the convergence. If you have gone into the menu and tried adjusting the focus/conversion after the TV has been on for an hour or more and the focus did not correct the problem the convergence ICs have failed and will need to be replaced along with a few defective resistors. If all the colors are incorrect a open fuse in the voltage supply to the amplifiers is possible. A TV repair company will normally charge about $350 for this repair if the ICs are the problem, less for the fuses. Small TV repair shops will normally charge less than large repair facilities. Convergence failure is a very common problem with this TV set. There could be other parts that are not within factory specs. The only way to be positive of the problem is to have the circuitry diagnosed by someone with the proper TV test equipment to determine what parts that are no longer within specs. A small TV repair shop will many times be less expensive than a large repair facility.

If you wish to repair it yourself and can solder, I will suggest that you to purchase a kit that has all the needed parts and detailed instructions for making the needed repair from :-

.When you get to the site using the link provided, choose TV repair kits, enter in the model number for your TV and select convergence repair kit.

I am sorry, you need to confirm the model number. There should be model number engrossed, might be back of the TV .

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

chrisiensen1,

You have most likely lost one or both of your convergence ICs. The ICs are not too hard to replace if you can use a soldering iron and are concientious. If you think that you are up to the task I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains the problem, walks you through the repair and has links to the best place to get parts at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

TV TURNED OFF WHILE WATCHING.

If you are talking about the blue power light I have a good idea and a way for you to find out.

See attached photos--they are of this set's CONVERGENCE output board--it is located behind the front grill and I can tell you how to get at it.

What I usually do in this case is get at the board and unplug selected plugs (it has 5 or 6 of them) and then turn set on.

Surprise? set comes on but looks terrible----it means a short on the Convergence board is causing the set to shut down.

Look at photos and tell me if I can help you.

Red convergence won't line up

See attached photos of board in your set---this model uses two of the STK-392-110 chips (Black part with that number on it in photos) and total parts cost on EBAY would be under 20 dollars.

This set is fairly easy to do it yourself---I can tell you how to get the parts, how to get the board out and how to do the repair yourself.

Let me know if you have questions or need instructions.

The words and pictures on my tv are outlined in

This is a fairly easy repair, I own one of these sets and have repaired dozens of them with the same problem.

Set uses two of the STK-392-110 CHIPS and they are located on a board directly in back of the front grill. SEE ATTACHED PHOTO: TOTAL PARTS COST FOR THE CHIPS IS UNDER 12 DOLLARS AND REPAIR WILL TAKE LESS THAN ONE HOUR.

I CAN TELL you how to take the board out with ease and the parts can be replaced with it out--other than the two chips there are a few resistors that need to be checked--easy and if any bad I can tell you the value.

Less than 25 dollars in parts and one hour to save the set!

Let me know if you want instructions and I will direct you step by step what you need and how to do it--the seller I use is on EBAY AND SHIPS FAST.

If this information and the photos help you rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Does it have a built in tunner?

It has an NTSC (analog) tuner. You'll need a digital to analog converter to watch most stations. Low power stations are still available in analog in some areas.

I hope this helps.
