You never should have to but if you wanted to you would have to disassemble the entire front. That could be as easy as a few screws or taking the whole thing apart depending on your model.

Try a "hard reset" first by unplugging the set for 30 seconds. and if no help, you may have a problem with the SMPS power supply, it might have a bad capacitor or two by now. Worth repair if engine is good compared to a flat panel.

Take several digital pictures of the problem you are having from different distances and angles including a shot that gets the entire television in. It sounds like the panel is bad and perhaps you will be able to negotiate with JVC because that would be a repair more costly than the price of a new television.

If it would have been a bulb problem you would have a flashing light on the lamp led signalling that it has failed. If the tv is completely dead then the failure is in the power source, and it's massive. The tv must be opened and tested by a qualified person. Time to call a repairman.

Get some freeze spray from radio shack then try placing a little spray on each chip on the video board and power supply board and each time you spray a chip look for the picture to clear up. When the lines go away you have located the bad IC.
