You might try to clean the heads, You can buy some acetone at any walmart, Kmart ect…Use a foam swab to clean the heads on the chrome cylinder that spins. (Do not use cotton swabs, it will get caught in the heads.) It has 4 small windows on the cylinder that are the record and play back heads. Do not use a lot of acetone at one time, just a bit. Let it dry for 5 to 10 min’s. Then try to record and play back something. Sometimes it takes more than one cleaning. But.. Always let it dry good before putting in a tape or it will clog the heads worst. I have found that cleaning tapes only work if the heads are not very dirty. A manual cleaning is the best. Radio shack may carry the foam swabs. I’m not sure but electronic supplies do. Hope this is helpful.

If you wish to buy its original remote control, contact the authorized service centre, or authorized dealer to your device brand. They can either give you a genuine remote control to your device, or can direct you, from where can you purchase a suitable one. To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. All the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability. Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device brand you have. Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its pack. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. For more details about the set-up codes, visit the site http://electrohelponline.blogspot.com/ Check these sites too. http://remotesearch.blogspot.com/ https://elektrotricks.blogspot.com/ Universal remote controls are available at most of the electronic spare part selling shops; as well as online shops. Visit the sites by Desktop computer and type in the brand name of your device in the search box at the right column. It will help you find the remote you have to buy. Mobille view has no search box.

I found a Portugese version of the user manual for the JVC RX-884VBK at ManualsLib here: https://www.manualslib.com/products/Jvc-Rx-884vbk-3775235.html . Take a look at the sections on using the remote starting around page 65. (There is a section on the CompuLink Features and then a page about using the remote with a VCR. After that, I saw remote control codes.) Most Redi-remotes are programmed with the factory standard codes for an original remote. That means that it will not control other AV devices that are newer than the RX-884VBK. Usually universal remotes are limited to controlling devices that were manufactured/programmed 6 months or more before the remote itself was programmed. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells (Note: I don't read Portugese but used cognates and the adjacent pictures to follow the documentation. I couldn't find any other language versions of this manual.)

It's not the outage that causes the issue, it is the power surge when it goes, often caused by a lightning strike of 100,000 volts, and also a surge when the power comes back on. If it took out one board, it took them all out, because they are all connected together.Change all the boards, but I bet it still won't work. Claim to your electricity utility company or claim on house insurance.
