Hello.The issue is likely due to the programming (or the lack of) of the scan gun. It is entirely possible that the UPC bar code is not configured in your gun as a valid bar code. You can remedy this by programming the scan gun to recognize the UPC bar code (and any other bar codes you may need to scan). The problem isn't your scanner or Vista, it's your adapter. Power requirements and speed of data require special adapters. One I always recommend is Scan Technology's part # STI-PS2-USB. I've tested it with all Metrologic scanners and it hasn't failed yet.

You programmed it for usb interface, but the scanner is keyboard wedge. Try pointing the scanner at the "recall defaults" barcode in the manual as you plug the scanner back in.

Try experimenting with the different inter-scan code delays. You can find the programming barcodes in your manual.

Now BEFORE you install ANYTHING be SURE you have *everything* important to you backed up!
