Nakamichi SoundSpace 8.5 System Questions & Answers
Please help me..solve this issue I am having :)
On the remote control, find the calibrate setting on the setup menu. Increase the rear volume there. On a soundspace 10, this is done by hitting the '+' button on the large remote control. Once you turn the gain up, you may also notice echo. Adjust that with the delay settings.

I am having trouble connecting
I could not find a link to the manual from the Nakamichi website. Here is a link to the PDF brochure you can look at
http://www.nakamichi.com/pdf/ss8_5brochure%20-%20revised.pdf
This system does not appear to have any HDMI outputs. The cd/dvd has component outputs(green, blue, and red) that are outputs that you can hook up to your television for 480P(standard resoloution with progressive scan) or you can use the s-video cable(no progressive scan) or rca jack video output(no prgressive scan). Then there is a left and right audio channel rca jack output if you want the audio to come from the television. So you should use the component output for the best picture from your dvd/cd player and hook those from the output signal on the Nakimichi to the input signal for the television. Then connect your audio output signals(red and white rca jacks) to the audio input jacks on your Nakamichi so the sounds from your television can be played through the Nakamichi. I know it sounds a little complicated so let me know if you have more questions or problems.

I am looking for the
I am still looking for a users manual for this unit myself. I can tell you that you don't have HDMI connections on this unit to run to your TV, but that the DVD player component does have Component, S-Video & Composite video outputs. Those are listed in order of best to worst video quality.
For your new 60", you really want to run the three cable component video connection from the Nakamichi DVD player straight to your TV, rather that the S-Video monitor out from the AV tuner/processor unit.
Ideally, I suspect you will wanting an HD Blu-Ray player to really make use of the size and clarity of your display, in which case you will run HDMI or component cables directly from the BR player to the TV.
I hope that helps.

Hi DJ,
That is a serious system you have there.
I haven't had much immediate luck on the manual. But I still may be able to help. I have included several wiring configurations to use as models.
If there is something specific, please comment back.
Best regards
Mike

My SS 8.5 won't power up...It WAS working just fine...
HI.
these nak units are kind of fussy. First check the main pin connection cable that goes from you control unit to the sub. Sometimes they get loose or the pins become misaligned. This will cause the system to become inoperable. Also, check the fuse on the sub unit. On my ss8 (not 8.5) there is a fuse inside the sub/amp box. just unscrew the cover plate and you will find it there. You can buy a replacement at radio shack for a couple bucks.

5.1 Audio
No - you can plug in external video using the SVideo input.. There are also a number of converters for similar situations. I have used one of these made for my Macintosh (It works just fine with the SS 8.5).

Nakamichi 680ZX deck: turning speed indicator to half speed does nothing
