I reckon ya got a busted thermostat and that'll probably cost more to fix than the unit is worth so you may have to just unplug it from the socket when yer finished using it. Thats my only suggestion, sorry l could'nt be more help..

your projector is having an electronic part malfunction, this is shown by the time frame you gave on your question and the reset option that usually fixes it. I am not all too familiar with a Dell projector , but check if the system has a CMOS battery that needs to replace and a capacitor that over heats causing the malfunction, better take system to a qualified electronic technician or a Dell service center.

Its nothing like that .. you can update the HP Support Assistance .. its optional.. bt if you are facing this problem then restore the computer to the previous date. if it doesnt work do the system restore from safe mode... it varies from os to os.. so check for it from google...

when you plug it in does the stand by light come on?
or when you press the power button does it not start up.

what you can try to do is reseat the bulb and try again, sometimes if the bulb isn't inserted properly or is slightly off will not work.

and for Kensington locks are for security purposes when displaying an item.

i.e. attach one end to table and the other to laptop

Try to reset the lamp hour of your projector. For that do the following.
1. power on the projector.
2. Press the menu button
3. select lamp settings
4. Select lamp reset
5. Select yes to reset the lamp hour.

are the lamp and filter covers on correctly. Is the power cable plugged in properly. Is the power switched on. Do any lights come on at all. Some more clues would be helpful

check if the spots are pixel size dots and not dust. if so then the problem is not dust but dead pixel problems

This called syncronisation. try different resolutions on pc/laptop. it looks like projector does not like source's resolution.
Check the cable, and connectios!!!
