There is a protection circuit in that unit. It has a relay that is either dirty or has detected a fault that might or might not be there.

Hello,

Does this means it is stuck in VCR mode and would not go to any other mode? If yes, then it means the selector/control switch problem. The board that controls the VCR, DVD, etc, is defective, that;s why it would go to other mode...

There is no quick fix to this other than to replace the selector. Are you familiar with electronics repairs? That is, soldering the panel in the unit? If no, please take it to a local repair.

It shouldn't cost much to fix. Just a selector problem.

I hope you understand this...

Regards.

From the initial posting of this question. (Please only update one.)

There is a switching IC inside this unit that may be the problem, but without seeing the actual unit and signal tracing, this will be near impossible to diagnose. If you have an oscilloscope, place an input signal on one of the inputs and trace the signal to the IC. It will be a TA9263 or something similar. You should see the signal on 2,4 or 6 pins. If you see the signal only on 2, then the IC is likely to be defective.

That would be my first attempt. Also check the power supply to that IC.

Keep us posted on progress.

Thanks,
Dan

Go here and try to find it:

http://remotes.com/store/codes_original.html

There is also advice on how to test your old remote.

or eBay: search for "(model) remotes", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.
