How to connect unpowered subwoofer to receiver with RCA sub out?

In order for this to work, you will need an external amplifier. Your receiver is set up to use a "powered" sub. With only speaker connections on the sub, it is a "passive" sub requiring a separate amp.

No sound. Do I need driver software for these speakers?

shouldn't need it for speakers. you do however need one for the sound card on your computer. if the speakers were an upgrade and you know the sound card works... check that it is plugged into the proper hole at the back of the computer and that there is power to the speakers.

Y adapter to speaker subwoofer

Well, I solved the problem this way, after having gone into a loop of discussionwith "bunnydog." I took the cable set back to the retailer and then I trashed the subwoofer. Problem solved. I have no further need of your assistance.

Yamaha YST-MSW10 subwoofer quits after about 10 minutes

This problem can be solved by either of the following:
1/ Modify the PCBA to prevent the auto shut off feature from working. This is done by adding a 20k ohm resistor across pins 1 & 2 on the timer IC6. This resistor will prevent the timer from turning off the amp. To do this, unplug the amp. Remove the 8 screws on the perimeter of the rear of the amp. Carefully remove the rear plate. Disconnect the speaker wires at the speaker and the front panel connection on the main board. Locate IC6 on the bottom of the main board. Solder a 20k ohm resistor (1/4W) across pins 1 & 2. Pin 1 and Pin 8 are noted on the board. Be sure to insulate the leads of the resistor to prevent contact with the board. See picture. Re-assemble in reverse order.
2/ Some 5.1 channel amps allow independent control of the volume for the subwoofer in their setup. Check your amp to see if you can raise the signal level going to the subwoofer to prevent the amp from shutting off. You can then dial back the volume of the subwoofer using the volume control on the front._436.jpg

Why does my Yamaha HTR-6130 power down after 3 seconds?

I expect there is either a power supply issue or one of the amplifiers has failed causing over current to turn it off as a protection to the power supply.

Jerky sound in one channel Yamaha M-60 Power Amplifier

WD-40 ... Very dangerous as it not only flammable when wet but is bad for electrical contacts as it leaves a residue behind that does not conduct electricity very well. Check speaker connections first.

Yamaha M-60 Power Amplifier distortion and sound goes off sometimes

Being from 1985 or there abouts, it probably needs some TLC at a Yamaha service centre. May need new capacitors and resolder dry joints for age related issues.
