Idk my comp has nothin

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause this problem

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets

hope this helps you

I plugged in the wrong power cable to my hard

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Hard Drive Capacity Stuck at 33.8 GB

You are probably using FAT32 for your partition on your drive: the limit for FAT32 is 32GB. Alternatively, you are using NTFS but your partition has been limited to that particular size.

You could you a Disk partition manager to change the format of your partition to NTFS or if you are already using this format extend the partion size to your requirements.

A safer alternative, if your current partition is set smaller than your drive size is to create additional primary or secondary partitions to fully utilize the available capacity: you could use (with great caution and only if you are experience) standard Windows Control Panel -> Systems and Security -> Admistrative Tools -> Computer management -> Disk management

I have ST3160215A 160 gb but it showing 137.4

Assuming that the jumpers at your hard drive is in the
right position. Run Scandisk to correct defect of the hard drive. If there's no change after the running Scandisk, then, the portion after the 137.4 either used space or a defective one.

I had a system using two Seagate Barracuda 7200.7

When the system failed what was it that failed and how ?

If it was a drive failure then the good drive should be capable of runnig all on its own as that is part of the raid process.

This also depends slightly on the OS

If it was a harware failure that required a motherboard or new server chassis then you could drop the drives in after installation of a new primary drive to move / recover data.

If they are 3.5" drives then the enclosure must have a suitable PSU of its own and only use the cables that came with it NOTHING ELSE.

You have not said how your external drive is connected SATA, FIREWIRE, USB etc as the drive you mention could run in any enclosure just mentioned.

If you are using USB then ensure that it is a USB 2.0 port you are connecting to not usb 1.x Again if its USB DO NOT connect via a hub.

If it is SATA make sure again that the enclosure has its own PSU and that the cable is the correct type E-SATA etc.

Same with FIREWIRE it MUST have its own PSU

ONLY use the psu that came with the enclosure NOTHING ELSE

I just split my HD and formatted Dr C:\ to fat32, D:\ would not

You cannot convert from NTFS to FAT32 unless you use say Partition Magic or other disk util.
If you have nothing in that partition then reformat it to FAT32 by right clicking on it and selecting > format> then select FAT32
