Rockford Fosgate Punch 500a2 Car Audio Amplifier - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Where to take my amp for repair
Contact Rockford for factory service.
If you don't want to send it to Rockford, ask the local audio shops who they use for amp repairs. If several use the same repair shop, it's probably a good place to send your amp.
Something Wrong With my Fosgate 500-a2 Amp
Is the amp being fed directly from the head unit's RCA preamp outputs or is it being fed by another amp's preamp outputs? Try temporarily wiring up a speaker you know is good in place of the sub and see if anything changes.
My Sub Doesnt Sound Good
The settings are all pretty much dependent on your ear. But some guide lines would be for the input gain, never turn it all the way up. Turn the gain up about half way possibly 3/4 of the way up. There should also be a filter, if you are powering subs then you want to filter out any high frequencies. So if there is a switch saying HPF or LPF you want LPF (Low Pass Frequency). Then there should be another "knob" that controls the frequency. At the least, you want your sub amp to be tuned below 50 Hz any lower is up to your ear. I hope this helped.

No power
Good day.
Have you checked on the fuse terminals?
Maybe the zener diode along B+ and ground got shorted when supply was reversed.
Check for for the continuity along the supply line. Also, consider if there was a sudden surge of supply that busted parts along the filter line of your unit.

Absence of sound
If you have another amp in the vehicle, swap the RCAs and speakers to see if you get sound through the other amp.
Generally, if the red light is on and there is no significant DC on the speaker terminals, the amp is in good working order (for the older Rockford amps).
Sub woofer wiring
If you have a 500a2 and two 4 ohm single voice coil speakers, you have only one option. Connect one speaker to each channel.
2 12 p3d212 2 ohm hooking up to a rockford
Hello a_brake11,
The P325.1 is relatively small to power a pair of P3's. You'll only get 325 watts RMS at 2 ohms (162.5 watts per sub). The P3's power range is from 100-500 watts, so they will work, but don't expect them to be really loud.
For best power, your subs should be wired with the voice coils in series and then the 2 subs paralleled to the amp resulting in a 2 ohm load.
Hope this helps.
I have a Rockford Fosgate 1500 BD amplifier and terminals for the power cable will not loosen or tighten how do I fix it
First off will the fastener turn ? If not try using a bit of wd-40 and letting it "soak" for a little while . Also be sure you are using a good proper sized Phillips screwdriver . If the fastener still won't turn try using a can of "computer duster " inverted so the liquid comes out , note this will be well below zero degrees , and freeze the screw head , then try turning . If the fastener is stripped and the ttol slips you will have to remove the amp cover and grip it with a pair of vise grips ,pliers or a flat blade screw driver .
