Rockford Fosgate Punch 401S Car Audio Amplifier - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I have a RF punch 401s 1200 watts and the RCAs
If you have a soldering iron simply epoxy the jack down to the board and then take some wire and solder rthe center conductor of the RCA jack and the other end would go to the trace on the PCB. Do the same for the ground connection.
Amp powers up. the right channel works fine left not at all
If you didn't find any burned parts that would mean one of the buffer amplifiers before the power amp could have died. They could either be transistor based or opamp based. They are fairly low power so they will not explode like the output transistors like to do. Contact rockford, they should be able to send you a schematic. Let me know I will try to help you through it.
Does the Rockford 401s amp have a fuse?
Yes. Rockford fosgate has a cover over all of the connections, crossovers, and various other controls. Just remove the cover with the allen wrench they sent with the amp or find a set of allen wrenches if you don't have one. Under this cover you'll find what you're looking for.
When i started to plug my battery in my amp made
you have blown the actual filters that make the sound. a amp is basically a filter with the same filters on both channels on each side of the inside of the amp - channel 1 and channel 2, that pop was in the heat sinks of the amp usually. if you have replaced the fuse in this amp and you get no on light, the internal amp is in need of repair
I have 2 punch amps
The red indicator indicates that the amp is inoperable, check the power to the amp and make sure it is at least 12 volts, check the ground connections for excessive resistance, no more than 3 ohms, disconnect the speaker from the amplifier and see if the red light goes out, if so check speaker wiring for shorts to ground, if the red light comes on only when the speaker is connected and the wiring checks out then the voice coil of the speaker may be shorted, if all the tests above prove ok then the Amp is defective and as a shorted output circuit, contact this web link for more help getting the amp fixed or replaced

It comes on but no has no sound
electronic repair is sometimes hard to diagnose, take it apart and look at all the mosfett chips and the diodes, to see if any are visually burnt, if so replace. if not then most repair shops will only charge about 30 bucks to check it out.
No sound from subs
take a 9 volt battery and touch the speaker terminals quickly.
they should move and make a noise if they are not blown voice coils.
do not leave the voltage on it for more than 1/2 second,as the dc can burn out the speakers coils
Connect rockford fosgate amplifier & speaker together
Assuming your P3 has a single voice coil (it will have only one place to plug your wires into) you will be running this in a bridged mode. You will take the left (+) coming off the amp and plug it into the (+) on the P3. Then take the right (+) from the amp and plug it into the (-) on the P3. This will make your amp push 500 watts to your sub. Now on the amp make sure your adjustments are as follows: Signal input switch is set to unbalanced for RCA input. Left Phase switch is set to 0. Right phase switch is set to 180. your X-card should be set to low pass. And adjust the gain for both R and L equally so it has equal power from both channels.
Transistor source and price
rockford fosgate use hexfets.they are made by international rectifier and are available from toronto. they are n and p channel devices.they are not bipolar transistors...
Not a problem just a question
100 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
200 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
400 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms in bridged mode
stereo or bridged mono output
4-ohm stable in bridged mode
Tri-Way capable
requires 8-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
50-250 Hz high-pass/low-pass (12 dB/octave) crossovers
wired remote included for fingertip control of Punch Bass (0-18 dB boost at 45 Hz)
MOSFET power supply and output devices
MEHSA mounting technology increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET output devices to the heat sink, for higher power output, lower operating temperatures, and greater reliability
TOPAZ — noise-killing differential inputs that eliminate 80% of ground loop noise
Trans•ana circuitry keeps preamp voltages low and signal paths simple for outstanding audio quality
NOMAD — advanced protection circuitry for "intelligent" shutdown protection
speaker- and preamp-level inputs
11-1/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D
