do you have a line level converter to use your amp with a radio that doesnt have rca outputs? if so turn down the level of the concerter and u should be good.

I would not remove the thermistor as it is there for your own protection. Rather take the amplifier in and have it checked. It can be something as simple as a dry or loose joint.
