Picture has lines going across
No picture tube is cheap to replace. Especially a Sony tube. And besides the cost of the tube there's the labor cost to install it and some tedious adjusting needs to be done to set up the replacement. When a picture tube fails it's time to replace the set.
Now having said all that, there are different kinds of lines that can show on the screen. Some are because the tube is bad, but others can come from less expensive parts on the circuit board in the set. Without seeing the lines for myself I can't tell you about yours. If you are wanting to keep the set, I would suggest having a qualified shop check it. The can tell you for sure if it's the tube or not, and give you an estimate for the cost of repair.
Zenith picture problems
Your TV is showing signs of age. It's displaying something called "vertical foldover" which is due to capacitors in the set's vertical output section that need to be replaced. These failed parts can stress the vertical output integrated circuit, and if that goes bad your picture will collapse to a thin horizontal line. The capacitors themselves (usually 3 or 4 need to be replaced) are pretty cheap. A TV shop in your area (if there are any still around!) could fix it and the repair should be under $100.
By moving those rings on the tube's neck (which is actually the back) you have messed up the set's convergence. Those rings are magnets which adjust the electron beams in the tube so the red, green and blue images line up correctly on the tube face. The rings are often marked with a stripe after adjustment to show how they were lined up. Look carefully at them and see if there are any marks you can go by to reset them. To properly converge the set some equipment is needed to generate the adjustment test pattern. Again, a shop could do it for you.
All things considered, at this point you might seriously consider replacing the set. Not because the troubles aren't fixable, but because other parts can start failing because of age, and by now your picture tube is on borrowed time as well.
I can't get any menu, none of those black buttons
Hi, I could theorize based on your observation that the buttons on the tv are designed just to fill space, in other words there is no contact leads the press, you might want to take it to a service guy, to open and check for a start, if you find Its true, then obviously your tv brand is a hoax. For the speaker, merely the same, there are just perforations on the tv to look like the other side, and in real sense there is just one speaker.
Zenith tv wont unlock
It should be a good enough reason for an exchange if possible. And should be covered under warranty, if not. However, if you want to try and fix it yourself......
Yes there should be a "hidden" menu. Before you access it, I want to warn you, do NOT change any values of anything you don't understand what it is or does. You can PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR TV. Also, write down the original values of anything you change before changing it!!!!!
If you still want to proceed(at your own risk), here ya go.
1. Press and hold the menu button until
the menu comes up on screen and then
times out (5 - 10 seconds)
2. Immediately press 9, 8, 7, 6, Enter.
3. The set should now be in the service menu
mode. To access most of the features
selection 00 needs to be toggled from 0 to 1
4. After your adjustments 00 needs to be
toggled from 1 to 0
5.Feature 16 unlock the auto-program (change to 0)
DTV converter Box and Zenith system 3
I have the same problem.... On the back of the tv, there are three coax
spots. One is for Cable, one is antenna decoder, and another is a loop.
I have had zero luck getting any of those to receive the signal.
Instead i have ran my digital signal to a vcr, then ran rca cables from
it to my tv. I then put my tv in vcr mode, or aux depending on where
you hooked it up. You can watch tv through your vcr this way.
Zenith system 3
There is a fuse located near the power cord just inside of back panel ,check it first. Please rate !
Blue menu screen stays on
Hi! the blue menu screen can be turned off by pressing the same button that caused it to appear. In most cases pressing the "Menu" button on the remote or TV-control will make the blue menu screen disappear..
I hope this helps!
VIDEO PROBLEM
if you have remote press the tv button then video or av button this may work. i need to know the model to help you better
Tv wont turn on
All later TVs are really not 'off' when you turn them off. They have power to some circuits all the time if plugged in, otherwise they could not even respond to an 'on' signal from your remote.
The squealing you are all hearing is from a dying 'switched mode' power supply and is normally caused by a ferrite-core transformer running at the wrong frequency and complaining about it.
The problem with them is almost certain to be caused by failed or failing electrolytic capacitors (cheap to replace) but continued
attempted operation could cause further damage.
This problem is common enough that any half-way competent tech with a capacitance meter could weed out the culprits pretty quick.
I'm tempted to suggest you get these repaired if they were otherwise satisfactory since the flat panels too often seem to only survive the warranty.
If I was doing the repair, I would give you an estimate of under $75. US
Locating the input
thank you very much for that information.but you yourself tried this information before confirming.
thanks for that information.
VCR/DVD prongs broken off in TV
unplug the tv then try to drill a real small hole in the broken off part of the cable that is inthe tv, then take a sharp pointed screw and try to thread it into the hole that you drilled if able to get it started then pull out on the screw to see if it will come out. If not able to do it this way you will have to take the back off and some of and see if you can push the broken part out from the inside. Be sure to unplug your tv from (AC) so you dont get hurt. If that dont work then u probley willhave to take to a shop to get fixed.
