For sure u can increase the darkness and there are settings to increase but u need to browse through the menu to locate the darkness increasing options. The mannual should definitely help.

depends on what alarm is on for ? if its on for say ? out of paper or out of ink then no its not going to print , even if it really has paper and ink , but it thinks it is out it still wont try , paper out switches in the tray do get bent/broken and some mfg wont allow u to use non mfg ink/toner it just gives a fault

Check the back of the printer. Open up the back door. There is a barely visible 2nd door which you need to open. Check to see if there is a paper jam behind this 2nd door. Often this is the problem and clearing this back paper jam will clear the red alarm light.

To print card stock you must us the manual slot in the front of the printer and feed one at a time. Also open the back flap door so the card stock can exit out the back instead of trying to bend around for the try. That will give you the staight paper path that your thick stock needs.

The drum unit needs to be replaced as it has reached maximum prints for the drum. The drum unit is the carriage part that the toner unit sits in before it is put in the machine.

Three Horizontal lines indicates a 'Light Burnt Drum'. The drum units are light sensitive. If they are left in the light too long they will be affected and it will show as black horizontal bars. The number of bars really depends on the circumference of the drum some are 2 some are 3 some can be 5 etc. Solving this you can only replace the drum unit. Check with your local remanufacturing outlet to source a replacement drum unit at a price WAY better than buying new.

Two possibilities, either your drum or toner is faulty

Probally Trojan 'Virus or Worm in your computer get it cleaned

When you flip the power switch on the side, you should see either lights on the front or hear the fuser and cooling fan. If neither of these happen with the switch in either position, check the power cable and power socket it's plugged in to. If all these are OK it is likely that the power transformer inside the printer has died or the power switch itself has failed.

Remove the toner/drum cartridge. If you can look up into the area above the toner cartridge with a flashlight, look for either dust on the laser glass or some other obstruction. Also check the transfer roller that lies just below the drum. Make sure that's clean with no damage to its sponge surface. DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH BARE HANDS!!! The oil from you skin will damage it. Most important thing to check: Look straight back to the rear of the printer without the cartridge in place. You should see an orange or red roller towards the back. That's the pressure roller for the fuser. Look with the flash light at the grey or light brown roller adjacent to that pressure roller. You said the right side is faded. Look at that right side of that roller. If there is any damage or foreign debris stuck on that side, and you can't clean it with cotton swabs and 91% Isopropol Alcohol, you probably will have to replace that fuser.

Brother has most of their drivers on their web site. However, the HL-1440 drivers are built into Win8. Plug your USB cable into your computer and the driver will load. You may need to use Windows Update and check the optional updates to find the driver. (If you use a parallel port (assuming one is on your computer, you will need to use the Add a Device wizard.) Use your fingers to rotate the rolls until the paper rolls out -try to pull the paper out slowly next time it usually will roll out sorry to sound condescending but it will 90 times out of 100 come out without tearing.
