Check the fuse inside the TV. If fuse blows, there is a problem elsewhere.
The initial spark you are mentioning is due to degaussing coil. This is not routed through fuse.

I suspect the high voltage portion of your power supply is starting to fail.
Normally, I would expect this kind of repair to be performed by a professional in a shop senerio.
There could be other causes and you will probably received several alternative view points here.

your problem is due short circuit in horizontal section of tv
your problem & smell is due to horizontal section failure.
in that section
1 flyback transformer & horizontal output transistor might be faulty.
but remember to check power supply is normal other wise it may fail again.
for skilled technician it is not a major problem &easy to fix at fair cost.
good luck.

tv repairman came to house with a wrapped cable demagnetizer, plugged it into the electrical outlet, waved it around in front of the tv screen, and the color returned to normal. Sounds magical, but that's exactly what happened to correct the color, and it has remained perfect since then

Move any speakers or electrical devices away from the set. It could also be anything electronic or magnetic. Anything near the set that generates a magnetic or electromagnetic field could be causing the distortion.

There is a coil in the set with a magnet glued to it, called the horizontal linearity coil. Sometimes the coil "sings", making a squeeling sound. I have seen this many times, and there really isnt anything actually electrically wrong with the set. To stop the squeeling the coil should be replaced.

First thing to do is take out the batteries out of the remote. Did it stop? Yes? Replace the remote control. Did not stop? Ok unplug the set for at least 3 to 4 hours. Did it stop? Good! No? It did'nt Stop? You have a problem with the Display Ic, and thats all built into the Microprocessor IC circuit. You will need to call in a pro to assit you with this repair, as there are no user serviceable parts inside of these sets. good Luck

A common practice in the TV industry is to include the size in inches in the model number. Often, a model will be made in different sizes, for example, z42pj240 may have a z50pj240 family member. They will use the same main circuit boards and remote controls. Check the list in your universal remote control manual for a variant like that.

If you are trying to use the player and switch between DVD and VCR there is usually a button on the front of the player and a matching one on the remote.
VCRs are becoming very rare now so most TVs don't have the connectors for them. How old your TV is will control how you do this. Older HD TVs are fitted with a SCART connector, ( a large, chunky, rectangular connector with lots of pin holes), or RCA connectors, (3 round pin connectors coloured red, white and yellow).
*Note* Make sure you use the 'OUT' connectors on the VCR and the 'IN' connectors on the TV.
Some newer TVs will let you connect through a 'screw in' Satellite/'CABLE TV wire connector.
