IS my tv fixable?

well I recently took my tv to a tv repair shop and they told me i had to replace the Y board and a Driver board. All in all it set me back $550.00

I see so many here with no sound/no picture issues: ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good. 2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signs of damage you can see---burnt parts etc. 3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down the problem. 4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set. Answers to issues: 1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the generic ones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don't put a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason. 2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses a standby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined and some not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on the power/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--I attach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flat and have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating (saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs 7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail. 3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not. 4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over. If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in this photo.

I assume there is power in the power outlet. Try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player. Look for any loose contacts in RC jacks/sockets/Cable. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.

Judging from the specifications from the manufacturer I would say this particular TV does not have HDMI connectivity. The listed input modes are S-Vid, Composite, Component, Tuner, DVI, and RS232. Either by your remote or manual. Some models have a master rocker switch close to the ac input where your cord plugs into. That kills all power to the set for vacation purposes.

The image on the screen is generated in the Y-sus board. On it the job is done by 2 circuits, each commanding the buffer board that in turn command directly the pixels on half of the screen. In your case it appears that one of those circuits is failing, most likely due to overheating.
You should open the tv, clean it thoroughly inside and reseat all the cables that go between the screen and the board. If this doesn't helps then the damage has already ben done and this is unfixable, the boards will have to be replaced. Without expert testing all you can do is to replace the board and hope that will fix it. Here they are in the order they should be tried

This model is analog it does not have a digital tuner built in.

First check if the green hue is affecting also the picture from a DVD (or similar device) connected to the TV. If it does not affect signal from DVD, then it is likely the polarizing filter, which is part of the panel.

Also ensure that the glow is also on top of on screen display menu. The problem should affect on screen display menu.

The problem is either light engine (it includes color wheel), or is the polarizing filter.

Polarizer problem looks like a green or blue (there are two filters) kind of shadow of not well defined shape. Light engine problem is often a bright green hue or spot.

The polarizing filters are part of the LCD panel, and are not sold separately. The panel is too expensive to be purchased alone.

If the unit is under warranty, get it replaced.
If not:
You've likely got a broken connection on the matrix for those pixels.
The controller in question will be directly above or below the black bar.
With skill and knowledge, these CAN be soldered back into place, but I even need a lighted magnifier or microscope to do these jobs these days (granted, my eyesight isn't what it used to be).
If the connection broke on the glass side however, this cannot be hand fixed, and the LCD will need to be replaced.
You can usually find out what connection is broken by lightly pressing on the contacts with a pencil eraser until the picture returns. This will at least tell you where you need to solder.
As a workaround, sometimes placing a piece of sponge or rubber inside the casing pressing against these contacts on the matrix controller can "band-aid fix" the issue (use tape to hold the sponge in place initially, but the casing should press against it once reassembled).
If you are going to attempt re-soldering the matrix controller, make sure you have a good liquid solder flux on hand, and de-soldering braid in case you bridge a connection.
