Zenith XBR413 DVD Recorder Questions & Answers
Unit is in safe mode
Hi,
On Most Models, by Holding the Power Button for 8-10 Sec would Fix this. One of the User's also describe that if there is a Button states ' Child Lock ' on that. Press it for few Seconds and the unit would be out of the Safe Mode.
If Problem remains, let me know so that i could search more for this Model.
Let me know, if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

You may need dvd- disks instead! ( it usually one or the other!) and if your player does take a DVD+ you might have to change brands of disks ( I know this sounds stupid but all disks are not created equal! and do not work in all players!

check out the recording speed.
Unknown Disc
There are at least two types of AVI formats that I know about: DIVX and XVID. When you encode your movie files are you encoding them always to DIVX? Some machines can play one format and not the other.
Did you make sure to handle the disc with care and not smudge it with your fingers? Dirty discs can easily be cleaned, using a super soft cloth & rubbing alcohol wiping in a swirling motion as you go around the disc. Discs with scratches need to be taken to a shop and professionally repaired.
Is the machine itself dirty? Simple fix: CD/DVD cleaner disc. Its got these little brushes on it to clean the laser eye.
Are you covering up any air holes on the outer case? Don't cover these up or the machine will get too hot, and will refuse to play anything.
Finalizing DVD
If the size of the vhs recording was in 2hr mode, and the size of the recording itself is about 2 hrs, you may not have enough space to finalize. I would use your PC to finalize the disc - I use Dr. Divx, but you can find many finalizing programs out there.
Unit in "safe" mode
Try pressing the stop button the front panel of the unit and holding it in for 5-10 seconds.
you may also want to try it on the remote.

you have to finalize the disc first.once it is finalized you can not record any more material on it,so make sure you record everything you want on a disc. you can maximize disc space by changing speeds on the dvd recorder. for example: if you have 5 hrs of stuff on a tape, set the dvd recorder for 6 hrs or more recording time.the quality should be ok [depends on how good of quality you want] if you set the speed for 2 hrs, your quality would be better, but obviously everything won't fit.
hope this helps

usually in the menu you will see an option called "finalise" chose this option for every recorded dvd aftre you have finish recording and this will close the disc and make it capable of playing on other systems. Hope that this helps

Hi skielty58...I just saw your post, so I haven't done any research yet. However, IF should you see this post prior to my, or any other contributors forthcoming updates which should contain a certain resolution, I would like you to try something during the interim.
Play a dvd, and although showing the blue screen, allow to play for about a minute. Now, using your remote, press and release STOP, and within 1 second, Press And Hold Stop for 10 to 15 seconds. This trick is reliant upon the timing sequence, so, you may want to try it more than once. Another trick that I'd like to suggest is that again, after allowing a dvd to play for a minute, simultaneously press select and stop on the player...Please update your post whether positive or negative so other potential contributors have the benefit of ongoing history...good luck my friend

remove the cover to make sure that there is nothing in the vcr. if nothing in in it then you either have broken gears or more likely your gear are out of alignment. if out of alignment, best to have a service manual handy to figure out the timming of the gears.
good luck.
Don't copy
If the VCR tape has copy protection on it, I could see it doing this.
