Problem With KENMARK flat Screen TV - BLACKS OUT
you do not give the model number for a better diagnosis
the most common cause of this problem is the invertor or at worse the screen its self.
If it is a lvd 163 you can purchase a new invertor from sales@tvs-services or call 01245392539
Sound is out ... everything else is working fine
let us try a simple approach....
disconnect everything from TV... plug tv in a/c outlet...turn TV on...do you have sound now? check MENU of course...if still NO audio then we have isolated the problem to the TV .
you can lose audio from a bad wire , a bad cable box(believe it or not)., a loose wire, a button being engaged etc......seeing as you have a Zenith...that 1 is known for bad AUDIO IC on circuit board( a linear IC with staggered legs into board( careful with FOIL when replacing IC!!!
VCR Sound but no picture
If the picture is only "snow" then the problem is the head(s) on the spinning drum have become clogged with video tape emulsion which greatly affects the spinning video head(s) reducing the video level down to only noise. This usually will happen instantly and is caused by the particular tape you were watching. The head(s) can be cleaned with a lint free cotton cloth and some alcohol by wetting a portion of the cloth with the alcohol (not to much) and with your finger hold the cloth with slight pressure against the horizontal slightly slanted slot which is on the outside surface of the drum about half way down. While applying the slight pressure spin the top of the drum around counter clockwise. do this for about 15 seconds. then when you are sure the alcohol as evaporated from the drum turn it on and try to play a tape (not the one you were watching when the problem occurred) and if the picture is still just snow repeat the procedure but this time use a little more force on the cloth. Or find and use a special VHS head cleaning tape. The cleaning tape will reduce the life of the heads because it is abrasive in nature.
I hope this helps you!
Cheers

Need to access service menu/mode
To access the Zenith service menu: Hold down the menu button on the remote control until the menu disappears. Then type in 9-8-7-6-enter. This should do the trick. Be careful what setting you change. I would recommend writing them down before you change any. Hope this helps.
TV won't power up
it sounds like you have a cap that blew. i would pull the back off and check the power supply for caps that are bulged or broken at the top or side. check your fuse also. if it was as loud as you say you will probably able to see where the damage is. if it's a cap or other part that you can see damaged then you need to replace it. please let me know how it turns out.
Convergence
If the convergence adjustment is not moving the beam chances are the convergence IC(s) are defective. If you know how to solder and understand TV safety you may be able to fix it. With power disconnected remove the back. You should see two large heat sinks with large ICs (3 by 6 inches) with about 30 leads going through the circuit board. Numbers on the ICs should usually be something like STKxxx-xxx or some variation with x being a number. These ICs control the position of the three beams. If they go bad you can't adjust one or more beams. Replace them both as you don't want to get in there again in 3 months. Cost is not that much. http://www.tritronicsinc.com or http://www.partstore.com should have them at a reasonable price. Before replaceing the ICs look at the circuit board closly for cracked solder joints. Resoldering any bad joints might just solve your problems and avoid replacing the ICs. Good luck and remember safety.
