Bose P1 - lost backlight
Bose support repaired two P1 remotes for me. The first one they did for free (well out of the warranty period). The second one in the last 18 months cost $50 for a complete rebuild, new case, etc.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

Sounds like this unit has a "membrane switch" - this is a piece of mylar
sort of like a tiny egg carton, with the inside coated with conductive
paint. When you press the switch it's like turning that particular cell
inside out and the conductive paint touches two contacts, completing the
circuit. The bad news is that the mylar lasts about as long as the
coating, so even if you recoat it, it's almost done for. Bose may (or
may not) sell these membrane switch pads; if they do, $10 would be a
lot. If Bose won't repair it or sell you the membrane switch, you may be
able to find the manufacturer through some ID on the membrane.
But first you can try out a New battery and reset it by:
1. Hold mute button for 5 second.
2. Move closer to zone control box.
3. Hold push button in the back of the zone control box.
your control console should beep and on.
