I have an Agfa SnapScan 1212u, and it has always done a great job for me. I was furious when I found out that Agfa quit updating the drivers several years back. It was actually some time after I'd updated to 10.6 before I needed to scan a large batch of images, and I realized Scanwise X no longer worked. However, there are SEVERAL solutions you can use!
You will need the SANE package (5 small files that will add SANE support to MacOS 10.6+). You can find all 5 files at http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/
. Once you install the library, you will have several options.
You can get VueScan, which runs $39 and is a high-end scanning software program.
You can get Graphic Converter
, which also runs $39 and supports SANE and TWAIN as image import methods (this is the method I use). Plus, the program is an extremely powerful tool for image conversion (it supports file formats back to the TRS-80, DOS, Amiga, Atari, etc. days) and editing. If you're going to pay, I think this is the way to go.
You can use Snac
, which is free. I was going to use this, and it ran fine for me under OS 10.6.6, but it would never recognize my scanner...
You can also try ScanAgain
, which is also free, but it was not stable on my MacBook.
