To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability? Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its user manual. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. If you see the site by "MOSAIC" view, will make surf easier.

If you can turn it on with the power button on the set;
either the remote control is not working,
or the TV is not receiving the signal (light) from the remote,
or the circuitry inside the TV is not processing the remote signal.
If the power button on the TV works.
1. replace the batteries in the remote (again)
2. make sure there is nothing in front of the TV

Throw it away or use it for parts. It can be anything. You may have cracked the CRT too which is not fixable.

Hi Sheila,
12 yrs of service is already fine. If you are going to send it to repair shop and spend around $50-$100 depend upon the faulty parts and you didn't know how long it will last after it repaired, I've suggest you to upgrade to more high end unit. It will give you more quality picture and experienced the advance technology.

I'm don't think having the user manual will solve your problem. I will explain why further down the page but, as you need a new manual anyway, you can download one (free) from here:


This problem is filed under Symphonic ST413C, but problems are often mis-filed. If you have a different model number, please let me know and I should be able to provide the correct manual.

The manual will open in a new browser window. You can then print the file and/or save it to your PC by clicking "File" in the top-left corner of the window, then choose "Print" or "Save As...".

If you are unable to open the file, you will also need to download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

The snow on the screen is usually due to a poor signal or interference. This is more common when two TVs are connected to the same receiver. The natural assumption is that if one TV is OK, and the other is not, then the TV must be the problem, but this is not the case. You may find that you need to connect a signal booster / interference suppressor (one small box will do both) somewhere in the system before both TVs will work.

I suggest you download the manual and see if you can resolve the problem from the TV, but I find this unlikely. The TV is simply displaying the signal from the Dish receiver. If they are connected with an RF/co-axial cable you could try re-scanning. If they are connected any other way and you are using an external input setting on the TV, re-scanning wont make any difference.

presse TV1 and SET button light on remote is steady enter code ...light goes out.. PRESS SET again and try. Keep trying unhtil unit can be turned on or off, then you know you have the right code. Write it on the back of the TV incase it drops out which can happen.

Unsophisticated is the first word that comes to mind when describing a television like this one, making it an ideal choice for those who want something they can use to watch television but don’t care about anything else.. Without cable input, there is little hope to get the picture looking sharp and clear using an ordinary antennae. IT IS NOT DIGITAL AND RUNS ON the old RABBIT EARS.!
