Cost Saving Advice
<li>Consider disposing of waste toner yourself<br />Waste toner is not environmentally friendly. But, instead of replacing the waste toner bottle, check with environmental experts in your area for what to do with the waste toner. It may be a simple matter of collecting the toner in a coffee can and turning it in somehwere.</li>
<li>Never buy toner cartridges<br />Nothing about toner cartridges for this printer ever really wears out from normal use. And, refilling them is clean and easy once you know how. But, more importantly, it costs about <b>90% to 95% less</b>. </li>
<li>Never replace parts just because the printer tells you to.<br />Serviceable OEM parts for this printer well outlast the printer's pushy insistance to replace them. All new serviceable parts come with a fuse. As soon as you install the part, the new fuse causes the printer to reset the page count for that part. Then, the printer blows the fuse. If the printer has been printing fine, but refuses to print because it claims a part must be replaced, remove the part, find the fuse, replace it, re-install the part, and voila!</li>
<li>If a part really does need to be replaced, scavange parts from an abandoned 2200.<br />Chances are that plenty owners of this printer have gotten tired of replacing the over-priced parts. All you have to do is find one that has yet to dump the printer (like me... hint, hint).</li></ul>
Qms 2200 paper mismatch error
Initial Thoughts The problem seems to be a fault in a paper feed sensor. This would explain the size mismatch, since these sensors are how the printer detects the paper size. And, it would explain why printing starts two-thirds down the page, since these sensors are also used in timing where on the page to start printing. However, a document passes through three software applications before it actually prints. And, any one of them could be causing the paper size mismatch. Insight Although paper sensors are usually low-tech and easy to remedy, they are often difficult to find and can sometimes be difficult to get to. Most such sensors are simple switches (toggles) and others are optical sensors that work like the electric eye of a garage door opening system. And, the solution may be as simple as a tiny piece of paper stuck on one of them. However, sensors such as these are quite numerous on this printer and can be hidden anywhere. The three software applications I referred to are:
1. The document rendering application, such as Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word, etc.
2. The print writer. This is part of the device driver software package. It breaks up a print request and converts it to a standard format that the printer will always recognize and manages transmission of each page to the system spooler or directly to the printer.
3. The printer firmware. I'm not sure of everything this does related to the print stream. But, part of it must manage resources, such as ensuring the right size paper is being fed.

My Magicolor 2200 ghosts in color and in black.
This is a symptom of a well-used transfer belt. Replacing it should do the trick.
To verify: Check the transfer belt. The transfer belt is the large replaceable unit close to the center of the printer. It should have excess toner clinging to it. Don't bother trying to clean it off. It will just return the next time you print.
I'm currently looking for a way to squeeze a little more life out of it. But, am having no luck so far.
