Change the light bulb in microwave
There is usually a small panel on the side of the microwave replace with a similar bulb. I think you can get them anywhere bulbs are sold

These ovens are made by Whirlpool. The electronic control board is notorious for going bad. If it is the one I am thinking about it is probably no longer available and will need to be rebuilt. I have had good success with Corecentrics Solutions. A google search will bring them up. I sent off the board and a rebuilt one arrived in about a week. Much cheaper than the original board too.
Kitchenaid oven, 5 or so years old, after cleaning
Try cycling the circuit breaker feed off for a few minutes to reset the control board. If the panel doesn't come back, then a service call is likely to be necessary. This type problem is NOT uncommon when self cleaning.
