Buttons don't work for except the volume. CD will play, but can't turn deck off and it's stuck in demo mode.

The problem is most likely in the detachable face. You could purchase a new one but it would cost about $135. Might be better just to buy a new radio. You can check for the part at http://www.pacparts.com/ .

The security code for my pioneer deh-p6500

This deck doesn't come with a secuirty code installed, the 1st owner must install the code, so there is no way to know what that code may be. Are you the 1st owner? Call Pioneer and see if there is a way to get around this problem. They may ask for proof of ownership.

Whats colors go to which?

  • Connect each wire yourself if your were unable to obtain a wiring harness to install your car stereo.

  • 2

Connect the positive wire from each speaker to the positive connector on the back of the stereo first. Then connect the negative wire from each speaker to the negative connector on the back of the stereo. If there is only one wire coming from the speakers, the speakers are grounded at the chassis. In this case you will need to install new speaker wiring.

  • 3

Connect the ground (-/black) wire of the stereo to a screw or bolt near where the radio is mounted in the dash. Make sure the wire is attached to metal, not plastic or fiberglass.

  • 4

Connect the 12 constant and ignition power wires (both +/red) to the new stereo. Refer to your stereo's installation manual to make sure these go to the correct places.

How many wires do you need to install rodio in

Let's see.. (1) Power (switched with ignition), (1) Power (always on to hold memory & time), (8) Speaker (2 wires per speaker), Antenna (coaxial cable). Now, the two power can be always on, but you'll have to remember to shut the radio off before you get out. You could have the radio power from a switched power source, but the clock will be wrong and all the station presets will be wiped outwhen the truck is shut off (no biggie if you're only going to listen to the CD player). You could get away with 4 speaker wires - one pair for the left speaker and one pair for the right speaker. The antenna is a must - unless you're planning on listening only to the CD player.

The rest, are optional. The power output lead is handy to turn on any external amplifier or to raise and lower a power antenna. If using an amp, you might want to use phono cables to send line level audio signals to it instead of using the speaker wires to do that - maybe use the speaker wires to drive dashboard speakers directly and use the amp to drive rear or door speakers.

In any case, I'd recommend purchasing a vehicle specific wiring harness. This will allow you to simply unplug your factory radio from the vehicle wiring. After you wire the new harness to the aftermarket radio, simply plug it into the vehicle wiring as if it were a factory radio. Easy as pie. Not cutting connectors off, crossing wires, etc. Plus, you get to plug your factory radio back in when it's time to sell - and move the aftermarket radio to your new car (after you buy the harness to connect it to the new car anyway). Some vehicles have a data bus that makes the radio an important part of the electronics for sending door chimes, key in ignition signals, etc., and require some pricey harnesses - but they are worth it in the long run. Please take a moment and rate this reply - thanks.

I hope this helps - good luck!

I am trying to install my deh-p6500 in my new

The installation will depend on how you truck is equipped.

If you have On-Star without the Bose system you will need an interface like this.

If you have On-Star and the Bose system you will need an interface like this.

If you have neither On-Star not Bose than you will need a harness like this.

If you do not have On-Star but you have the Bose system than you need this.

This use of these interfaces/harnesses make the installation very clean and reliable. There is no easy way to retain On-Star without the use of the interface but you can hard wire the radio if your truck does not have it.

It is likely that the terminals on the back of the removable facia and on the unit need cleaning with a "contact cleaner". I suffered similar problems, all gold plated contacts looked clean, but i gave them a spray over with contact cleaner anyway and it worked.
