I have a 50" Pioneer

You will need a repair kit for the convergence ICs, resistors, etc.

Here is the best kit I've ever used.

It comes with:
Kit Includes
  • OEM Sanyo Convergence Chips. Each kit includes the correct replacement convergence chips verified against the service manuals. Two chips per kit unless your model uses three - in that case we ship three. These are genuine OEM Sanyo chips. Sanyo was the primary supplier of convergence chips used in TV sets made by Philips, Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and many others). We do not use lower quality generic convergence chips in our kits like other sites.
  • Convergence Resistors - These are specifically designed and rated for convergence circuits. Do not use anything but convergence rated resistors when doing these repairs.
  • Thermal Paste
  • Photo Instruction Manual - Complete Instructions on how to repair your TV. This is a step by step photo instruction guide that will walk you through each step of the repair. All of our repair guides are non technical and easy to follow. You do not need to have any prior electronic repair experience to use this kit.(Download Version - allows you to view/zoom/print from your computer)
  • Soldering Instruction Manual - Complete instructions on how learn to solder like a pro in less that 30 minutes.

Thank you and best of luck!!!!

I have an older Pioneer rear projection TV that

Unplug the TV for safety - even unplugged, there is enough energy stored in the electronics to be very dangerous.
The bottom speaker grill snaps straight off. There are a row of screws under the screen around the screen bezel that must be removed. The bottom of the screen will become loose and the whole screen assembly slides up, like opening a window (there is a bracket under the bezel at the top of the screen that the bezel slides off of.) My screen took a lot of effort to disengage the top bracket - careful not to break anything!!!

Once the screen is off, put it safely aside. There is a mirror in the back that can be cleaned with a damp cloth (not dripping wet!). Remove a little dust at a time and keep washing the cloth out between cleanings. Be very gentle. If you push on the mirror it could break If its never been cleaned there is sure to be a lot of crud.

Below the mirror are three colored lenses. CAREFULLY use a clean lightly damp cloth to wipe each one. Don't mess with any of the adjustment screws and levers on the lenses.

Before putting the screen back on the TV, carefully clean it with a damp cloth too. Slide the screen back over the top bracket, put the screws back in, and pop the speaker grill back on.

Its a good idea to readjust you convergence too.

When I cleaned my set, I was amazed at how bright and sharp the picture was!

Be Careful!

Was watching one day and

Heatsink? Nonsense. Almost any heatsink is no more than a hunk of metal.

There is a likely shorted transistor on the main power board (possibly the Horizontal Output Transistor, HOT). They are very inexpensive to buy (about $5) but tricky (and dangerous) to replace if you are not familiar with electronics.

There are A LOT of wires, cables and connector in this TV that need to be undone to get the main power board out.

I love this TV and was able to fix mine in an evening... but I've 20years experience in electronics.

The picture keeps turning off but the sound works.

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

Television turns off

There are red leds that light up inside to indicate which board has the defect. The power one always comes on with any shutdown, but usually there will be another red LED that will fire (only at the moment of shutdown) and you have to look while you try to kick it on. It will probably be on the convergence board and you will need a new board or to fix up that one. Let me know if I can assist futher.

TV will not power up, power light turn on

This is a classic switchmode power supply, shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power, and in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an Pioneer, Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their local, "Head Office" Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand,

Has problems turning on

www.scribd.com/.../Pioneer-Pro1410hdPdp614mx424mx-Training-Manual -
www.scribd.com/.../Philips-DPTV400-TV-Projection-Training-Manual The manuals above are service and training manuals for your type of TV, these give troubleshooting procedures to help troubleshoot.
With this symptom, it is impossible to tell what the exact "Cause" of this symptom is. The symptom do not tell us what is wrong, sometimes it may indicate the "Area" in your case it is the X board. BUT thats NOT where the "Fault is" thats just the part that is affected. These days unlike the "Old" analogue days it just isn't realistically possible to fix anything but the most basic of problems with todays sophisticated units. This is quite apart from the Safety aspect, any unit that can cause a firs or have an explosion, or both, is NOT to be treated lightly, and and the repairer, of the unit is legally responsible, another thing to think about. Also, one must have tools, a Multimeter, a soldering iron, a deslodering iron, an oscilloscope, a signal tracer, tools, and most important of all, a Service Manual, without which, there is no way to even begin to understand and fix it, and more importantly Program it, AFTER it has been fixed. As these days a TV, is a PC, a Tuner, and an HDTV Monitor, and more, all in one. in the "old" days TV"s were more, rudimentary, and built to last for 20 years, and a "Parts" supply was set aside. They usually used to fail for only a few reasons, and they while still difficult, were less difficult to repair. Electrical knowledge was transferable, and they could be and would respond to, This-is-the-symptom-This-us-the-Fix, But that no longer applies, as now, it can be a Fault on I squared Bus, or "Sensor" failure, or it simple may have "Crashed" just like a PC, It could be a Diode go bad, and that will stop the whole thing. You see, in the day, the sets were Very "Fault Tolerant" because they were Analouge, and a faulty, component, or more sometimes, the set would always diplay something usually, and when they didn't it was one of anly a few things, sure there are always the horrid ones, and there are pleanty of those, but all in all it was quite easy. But with Digital Electronics, it either goes, or it doesnt, there are usualy few half measures. I mean thats the definition of logic either going or not. So it can take very little to completely paralyse a set, and generally give the only sysmptom, it can, by not working, usually No picture, or the like. So you, see the list is endless almost for any given SYMPTOM, as that is what is being seen, not the cause, as I keep going on about. Also any fault, usually involves the Power Supply, it is either the cause, the cause of the damage, or it is damaged. or ALL of them. Then after you have done the electronic repairs, you then must program the set to work, and align, and set up in general, any one of those settings missed or done wrong, back to square one. So, it is nearly always my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" form the manufacturers recommended service center, I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. you see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat, and help out someone else

Red will not adjust correct with convergence

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.pnghttp://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull
