My VSX-D606S had got hot
Too late.
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

PIONEER VSX-D606S WHEN POWERED STAYS
Hello,
Your unit staying in standby mode is an indication that its having a power problem. Remove its plug from the wall and fix it back into the wall, then turn it on again. If its still stuck in safe mode, then the power supply board in the unit is the cause of the problem.
The power supply board might be defective and maybe that's why the unit won't power up. Its receiving power but it cannot transfer the current to the necessary part of the unit because a capacitor, diode, etc may have been faulty. Until these bad components are replaced, the unit might not come on.
To actually find out what's wrong, you need to disassemble the unit with a screw driver and check what's wrong. You will be needing a meter in order to test the components on the power board, once you detect any bad component, you can make necessary replacement at any electronics accessories store withing our vicinity. This is the only way by which you can detect the problem.
Of course, testing the power board with a meter will require someone that has the ability. So it you can't, then you might be needing the help of a repairman or you can call a friend that has the ability to help you out.
I wish you the best of luck.
Regards.....

Dear expert
I am the Israeli
I can't find a free manual to quote.
There are three parts to this scenario and only one named.
First, you need to set the receiver up with speaker definitions and capacities, subwoofer presence, bass management and Test Tones to verify it CAN make each speaker work.
The DVD player has a piece of this, too. It probably has a menu for speaker configuration that needs to be set up. And its digital output prbably has a setting like DTS/Dolby Digital/PCM. Look in the manual. Look in the manual.
Then there's the sub itself. Is IT working? Jack it into any other pre-out as a test.
