Technics 940dx "overload"

Disconnect all speaker wires from the back of the receiver and turn it back on. If overload does not turn on, post a comment and I can walk you thru troubleshooting. If it does, your receiver needs to be serviced. Hope this helps

Can i hookup a television to my receiver for sound

Yes. You can hook it up using a digital coax or optical cable. Use can also use old stereo, analog, left and right channel audio. Use any audio input on your Technics, that will accept any of the inputs above.

HOW CAN I CONNECT A MIXER TO A TECHNICS SA-DX940 AV

I used the manual downloaded from http://www.manuals365.com/technics/sadx940.html Try using the final stereo output of the mixer as the input to the CD or Tape or VCR inputs.and use the switches on the fromt of the DX940 as necessary. The specificatios state input sensitivity is 27 mY so your mixer needs a low output.. No reason it shouldn't work.

My problem is that when

Fans usually blow in the direction that would assist warm air to exit the device. Since heated air rises and there are vents on top I would guess air would be drawn in.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

I have recently receieved No

It is possible that the amplifier had encountered a fault with a higher current drain which had triggered it to a protection fault condition. The fault can be your output drivers- the MOSFETS/IC's fitted for both the channels, Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Sometimes this can be a noise like a HUM or HISS before the protect works. Faulty capacitors in these circuits also can cause similar issues and needs close observation.
You need to confirm and replace the specific stages or outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board, maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias , maybe a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the protect is off then check for short on the speakers.

What is speaker A low

The Low Impedance setting is for when you have even one speaker with <8-ohms nominal impedance so you can use bot speaker pairs together. You still need to have an effective total (parallel) impedance of 4-ohms minimum or there may be problems like blowing up the amps.

Press and hold the SPEAKERS A or B button until LOW IMP lights or goes out, as required.

Press either button to toggle that speaker pair on or off.

It's in the manual page 14, 22 and 25.

How do I connect to LG flat screen tv for sound

Flat screens are for video. Why would you want to hear it? Kidding, partially.

My $.02...

First of all we need to know the TV's model, just in case it's complicated .

A TV's speakers (if it even has any) are not generally considered to be viable additions or alternatives to audio-specific designs. That is not to say they aren't better than some. Just the same TV's usually are not at the output end of a serious audio chain. Video, yes.

Even though this may go 'against the book', I'd recommend you go for minimal receiver involvement in the video side other than to send composite video to the TV from "Monitor Out" so you can set up and manage the receiver through the TV.

You can also send Cable- or Sat Box basic analog audio directly to the TV if it has inputs for audio. That way if you just want to watch the news or weather you don't need to fire up the Receiver.

Your video sources (DVD, BD, Cable/Sat) can suffer fewer video anomalies and unnecessary modifications or conversions if you send their BEST video directly to the TV and their BEST audio directly to the receiver. That way everything is handled only once by the best electronics you have for each function.

I am planning to get

1. the manual date is 1999 if that tells you anything
2. It has a native Phono Preamp for that old-school turntable
3. CD Burner: yes. Attach it in the Tape Loop and optical digital input for playback.

The CD recorder should also have digital input(s) so you can can capture digital audio from a variety of sources.
