hi rich,
i had this problem it was touching the buttons that lost the sound to the speakers, do you have a re-set button if so press it if not press A or B to get your sound back if thats does nothing then try head cleaning tape as you might have some static thats transfered from your tape to your heads an anti- static head cleaning tape will do the job, you should use these cleaning tapes every week as the heads pick up a lot of dust particles and static that cause very poor reproduction and qulity such as crackling and muffled repro,
hope this helps

When playing a tape the

My recommendation to you is if you value this tape player then have a professional do the repairs and give it a thorough cleaning at the same time.I have been working and repairing various types of equipment, tools, electronics, plumbing, heating, and a/c for 35 years and I have started to dismantle my old dual deck optimus twice and both times I got about halfway in and ended up blowing out with electronics spray cleaner and putting back together. The good news is it still works. Good luck on whatever you choose to do and thank you.

I have a Technics Stereo tape deck (M224) that I

Open up the unit and locate the long silver component that is activated by the record switch. Flush this out using electronics cleaner and work it back and forth a few times. This might clear it up. What is happening is that the unit is caught between play and record modes. Cleaning this switch assembly often clears this up.

Update this with your results.

Technics 373 Dual Cassette - Playback Stops

Suggest having a good clean and replace belts. If it stops around halfway on a C90 or near the end then there's a load problem on the take up reel, before halfway the supply reel.

Technics RS-TR373 is chewing tapes

A lot of tape chewing problems are caused by the capstan roller being worn. Check for wear or oxide on that first.

RS-dc10 DCC replacement head

You should contact Panasonic, or Matsuchita. They can most likely give you their authorised parts dealer. You may find the head to be a little expensive.

You will have to have an experienced tech install the head for you. He will have to do a tape path alignment with the frequency response calibration.
