Top 20 Radio Shack Wireless Weather Forecaster Questions & Answers

I presume by sensor you mean the remote sensor not the main unit which also has sensors? When you buy the 1090 you get one external/remote sensor which is also labeled 1090. If you buy extra sensors they are 1092's. Another new 1092 sensor should work with your 1090 it does on mine. You can have up to 3 remotes just set the channel on them. Getting one is the problem. If your talking of stripping the box down to replace the sensor , well I am sure more than the sensor would have a fault!

Take it apart and get some isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip. check for corrosion around the terminals. If there is none, look for loose connections. If there is something loose, check if a bit of the board is loose. If a bit of the board is stuck to the terminals, give up on batteries.

Place your remote temperature sensor and the inside unit together for about an hour to see if they both read the same or if there is a large difference in the temperatures.

Dashes on the outside temperature reading may indicate that the inside unit is not receiving a signal from the remote. Change the batteries on the remote or change the location of the inside and/or outside units so that they can receive a strong signal between each other.

Your smartphone temperature may be coming from a location that is not near your home. They are often from a weather service. Where is your local temperature sensor located? Is it in the sun? Is it on the south side of the house, or another location where the sun or an air conditioner or other heat source may affect the accuracy of the reading? Try to locate your outside sensor in a shaded location with plenty of ventilation, and away from heat sources.

try new test leads first. even if the unit is miscalibrated, you should get the same measurements from the same components/circuits. you'll need to send the unit to a calibration center, or the manufacturer, to get it zeroed out, if you still need to afrer getting new test leads
