Does the CD player still try reading CDs? If it does it may just need to be cleaned. They sell cd player cleaner discs that have a little brush mounted on the disc which will swipe across the lens and clean any film residue or dirt off the lens. Or you can remove the CD player and remove the top cover of it and use a damp Q-tip to clean the lens and then reassemble the CD player
