Removal & Installation

Before servicing any vehicle, please be sure to read the precautions section, which deals with personal safety, prevention of component damage, and important points to take into consideration when servicing a motor vehicle.

WARNING Vehicle must be in PARK prior to ignition cylinder removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the SIR (air bag) system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  3. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  4. Insert key into the ignition and rotate to the RUN position. Then rotate ignition cylinder back to ACC position.
  5. Depress the locking button through hole on side of ignition module assembly with a thin pick-type tool then slide the lock cylinder from the ignition housing.

To install:

NOTE If you are installing a new lock cylinder, recoding will be required and a J 41340, Lock Cylinder Holding Fixture and Staking Tool will be required.

NOTE Ignition lock cylinder reads key cut position 1 through 9.
  1. Insert the appropriate tumbler (3) according to the key code into the corresponding tumbler ward.

  2. The tumblers will not immediately seat into position because the sidebar has been pre-assembled. The tumblers will have to be pushed past the sidebar with a small flat screwdriver or pocket knife.
  3. The tumbler springs (2) should then be inserted into the spring wells in the cylinder (4) where they will sit on top of the tumblers.
  4. The seal plate (1) will be installed and crimped.
  5. Insert the seal plate locator legs into the receptacle slots in the cylinder--seal plate will seat into position only when the two locator legs have been properly inserted into the receptacles on the cylinder.
  6. While holding the seal plate in position with the thumb, insert the key into the cylinder and watch for the side bar to drop. If the side bar does not drop, the lock is tumbled wrong and you need to start over.
  7. Ensure that the side bar does not drop on an angle. The side bar must be completely flush to the cylinder diameter.
  8. Stake (1) the two metal areas of the cylinder (2) directly over the seal plate legs with a hammer and punch or chisel.

  9. Repeat this stake on the areas of the cylinder directly opposite of the first to stakes.
NOTE Actuator blade within the ignition module must be in ACC position to install the lock cylinder assembly. If rotated, reposition the actuator blade to the ACC position using needle nose pliers.
  10. Insert key into ignition lock cylinder and install the cylinder into the lock housing.
  11. Rotate the lock cylinder in the housing. Verify proper rotation.
  12. Install the steering column trim covers.
  13. Enable the SIR system.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.

Be sure to use suitable materials 3/16th inch wall mild steel and that proper prep work and proper welding procedures are observed and you will have the box serve you well for years to come.

1944c Furuno radar array won't spin 7 years old. Just beeping

It seems like you're dealing with a technical issue related to a Furuno radar array. If the radar array is not spinning and is emitting a beeping sound, there could be several possible reasons for this problem. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check Power Supply: Ensure that the radar array is receiving proper power. Check the power cables, connections, and any fuses that might be relevant. Make sure the power source is functional and providing the correct voltage.
  2. Inspect Mechanical Components: If the radar array won't spin, there could be a mechanical issue with the rotating mechanism. Check for any obstructions or debris that might be preventing the rotation. Lubricate any moving parts if necessary.
  3. Connection and Wiring: Examine the connections between the radar array and its control/display unit. Loose or damaged cables could cause communication problems and result in the array not spinning. Ensure all connections are secure and undamaged.
  4. Software and Configuration: Sometimes, software settings or configuration options can affect the operation of the radar array. Check the user manual or documentation to ensure that the radar is properly configured. Try resetting the settings to default and see if that resolves the issue.
  5. Error Codes or Messages: If the radar is emitting beeping sounds, it might be indicating an error condition. Refer to the user manual or any accompanying documentation for a list of error codes or messages and their meanings. This could help pinpoint the problem.
  6. Contact Support: If you've tried the above steps and the issue persists, it might be best to contact Furuno's customer support or a qualified technician for further assistance. They can provide more specific guidance based on the model of your radar array and the symptoms you're experiencing.
Remember, working with electronic equipment requires caution to avoid electrical hazards. If you're not comfortable troubleshooting the issue yourself, it's always a good idea to seek professional help.

What does Fo4 mean on a Vector battery jump box?

The "F04" code on a Vector battery jump box typically indicates a fault or error within the unit or its connections. This error could be caused by a poor connection, a damaged battery clamp, or an issue with the box itself. To help fix the issue, try these steps:

1. Ensure the battery clamps are clean and not damaged.
2. Check the connections between the jump box and the battery terminals. Ensure the positive (+) clamp is connected to the positive terminal and the negative (-) clamp is connected to the negative terminal or a suitable ground location on the vehicle.
3. If possible, test the jump box on another vehicle to confirm it is working correctly.
4. If the issue still remains, consult the user manual or contact the manufacturer for further assistance or information on potential repair options.
