Try using a pencil eraser on each battery contact. That usually fixes it.

I've found that the batteries lose contact after w while, so here is what I do:
1) take a pencil eraser and rub each of the contacts with it.
2) lightly apply some petroleum jelly to each end of the battery.
3) make sure the compartment is completely dry. Take a small piece of paper towel, roll it up, and, with the pencil, rub the inside of each of the battery compartments.
4) re-insert batteries and try again. It should work!

This is the first time I have heard of a washer under the Grundig label - hopefully they aren't as complex and over-engineered as their original products.

Possible causes of no water in tub...
Failed water inlet solenoid valve.
Wiring fault.
Programmer.
Failed tub water level switch or blocked tube to the switch (if your washer uses a pressure switch to control level.
Door switch or wiring.

Does it make a sound while you set it to drain?
If yes I'd check for a blockage within the drain system

That error is a drain error and it could be something in the line that you cannot see when you looked at and cleaned the filter. Any articles of clothing that may be at the inlet of the pump could cause it, You are going to have to lay the unit down if it is a top loader, in order to see the hoses and check them. It could also be the pump has failed.

Dwd-L142KC has a direct drive motor. A very common fault on this machine is that the drum shaft seal fails, letting water into the bearings which then starts to rust and then develope severe play between the drum and the tub. As the stator is mounted onto the tub and the rotor is mounted onto the drum shaft the rotor can then, due to the worn bearing, move too far away from the stator. Because the sensor that detects the actual speed of the motor is mounted onto the stator assembly, the control PCB then no longer gets the feedback signal from the sensor hence the motor not running correct. You'll most probably see the motor only moving in short bursts, a the missing feedback prevents it from accelerating further. A bearing and seal repair will in this case resolve this problem. It did on my machine. If the shaft is heavily worn below the shaft seal, this will need sorted in order to prevent the new seal from getting damaged or wearing out to soon
