135 etec starts hard 1/20 try's runs 10 secs or Les very poorly when starts. New plugs, gas, filter, fuel pump. Any ideas?
Based on the information provided, it seems like you have already checked and replaced some common components that could cause the described issue. However, there could be several other potential causes for the problem you're experiencing with your Evinrude E-TEC outboard motor.
Here are a few additional suggestions to consider:
1. Ignition System: Check the ignition coils, ignition timing, and spark plug wires for any signs of damage or malfunction. Ensure that the spark plugs are properly gapped and the correct type for your engine.
2. Carburetor or Fuel Injectors: If your outboard motor has a carburetor, it may be clogged or in need of adjustment. Cleaning the carburetor or checking the fuel injectors for proper operation could help resolve the issue.
3. Air Intake System: Inspect the air filter and intake manifold for any obstructions or blockages that may restrict airflow to the engine. Make sure the air filter is clean and functioning correctly.
4. Compression: Low compression in one or more cylinders can cause poor starting and running issues. Consider performing a compression test to determine if there are any abnormalities in the engine's compression.
5. Electrical System: Check the battery voltage and connections to ensure they are in good condition. Faulty electrical connections or a weak battery can affect the starting and running of the engine.
If you have performed all these checks and are still unable to diagnose the issue, it may be best to consult a certified marine mechanic or an authorized Evinrude service center. They will have the expertise and specialized equipment to diagnose and resolve the problem with your outboard motor.
Having trouble with sliding leg into housing keeps knocking into neutral at 3/4 way up. Doesn't align. Evinrude 140hp vro
It sounds like you may be having issues with the shift linkage or the gearcase on your Evinrude 140hp VRO outboard motor.
The sliding leg may be hitting something or getting caught on something as you try to slide it into the housing. This could cause it to go into neutral or prevent it from aligning properly.
Here are some possible steps to troubleshoot the issue:
- Check for any obstructions or debris that may be blocking the sliding leg from fitting into the housing. Remove any debris if found.
- Check the shift linkage for any damage or looseness. The linkage connects the shift handle to the transmission and could be causing the issue if it's worn or out of adjustment. Adjust or replace the linkage if necessary.
- Check the gearcase for any damage or wear. The gearcase contains the gears that drive the propeller, and if it's damaged or worn, it could cause shifting issues. If you suspect the gearcase is damaged, it's best to have a professional mechanic take a look.
- Lubricate the shift mechanism with marine grease or oil. This can help smooth out any rough spots and make it easier to shift.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be best to have a professional mechanic take a look at your outboard motor to diagnose and repair the problem.

Evinrude outboard AG 60 problems
Ps. If your using the new "plant gas" which is supposedly taking over in the US then it's eating your fuel lines and plugging everything up. Manufacturers refuse to cover warranty if you use this gas. Supreme or med high test is the only safe route. The injectors through to the fuel filters get fouled on the lower plant based fuel. Wasn't bad a few years ago but now they have been increasing the percentage and it's causing issues.
Evinrude 150 will crank but won't go into gear
With the engine turned off try and rotate the prop while some one shifts it into gear. The linkage maybe getting sticky. For cable style shifter you can disconnect at the motor and manually try the shift with engine in off. If it shifts easy it's your cable. Replace or try using lubrication ( wd40 with a cable adapter.)
