Is it possible that you have multiple partitions? on the drive?

Check the Disk management utility in windows to find this out.

To open the disk management utility, Right click on "My Computer" (in windows XP) or "Computer" (in Windows Vista and 7) and press manage. then click on disk management in the window that opens up and it will tell you if you have multiple partitions.

Try connecing your old hard drive to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If the hard drive is OK then this computer will see this as an external storage device, then you can open the various folders and download and copy your photos.
If this computer cannot detect this hard drive then it is faulty.
If you want to recover the data from this faulty hard drive, then there are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

get a copy of linux puppy and boot from cd while your external drive plugged in, it should recognise this under linux, then get what files you need and transfer to usb drive and reformatt the drive, I hope this helps

connect your hard disk to computer, it will deteck new hard disk, then at windows explorer to copy/back up your samsung hard disk to the computer that you connect with your samsung har drive, it is so easy to do that
