Mtd snow blower quit throwing snow so i checked

If I was you I would check key way to see if it has sheered off. It is in center of big drive pulley where belt goes on, Just remove nut and slide pulley off to check condition. Best to split snowblower in half. Your snowblower has two main pieces it will be 4 or 6 bolts to separate your machine.

My drive does not engage I checked the clutch

There are a few things to check on this unit First is if the pins are in both tires. the quick pins are removable and allow for the machine to freewheel for easy transport.

I would check to see if the drive disk is coming to a stop when the cable is tensioned properly and engaged. If it stops then the belt needs replaced. There are a few updates on the different models for idler pulleys. I would recommend checking with a shop like www.arcolawn.com to get belts and check for updates.

If the drive disk is spinning and the pins are in then the problem is from the rubber drive disk to the axles. If there is no grinding from the transaxle then the problem is in the clearance of the drive disk.

Good luck.

How to adjust a 9460897 mtd snow blower auger

On the handle end (usually) of the cable is a curved metal connector. Attached to the connector is a threaded rod with a nut. Attach a pair of pliers to the threaded cylinder that the threaded rod goes into. Loosen the nut. Turn the threaded cylinder into the threaded rod to tighten or out to loosen. When you have the correct adjustment, tighten the nut back down onto the cylinder. To be correctly adjusted, pull the cover off the auger belt and push down on the handle. The spring attached to the cable at the pulley end should stretch out when the handle is fully depressed. Spring tension keeps the belt tight. iaff801.jpg

I have a MTD 5/20

ALL SNOW BLOWERS HAVE WHAT THEY CALL A FRICTION DISC DRIVE IT SOUNDS LIKE THE FORWARD SIDE OF THE DISC IS WORN OR THEDRIVE WHEEL HAS A RUBBER DRIVE RING THAT IS WORN. IF YOU REMOVE THE BOTTOM PLATE YOU WILL SEE TWO DRIVE WHEELS ONE IS JUST A METAL DISC AND THE OTHER LOOKS THE SAME BUT HAS A REBBER RING FOR GRIPPING THE DISC TO MOVE THE BLOWER FOREWARD, WE END UP REPLACING ALL THE DRIVE DISC AND DRIVE WHEELS ON OURS EVERY SPRING THE FOREWARD DRIVE TAKES THE MOST PUNISHMENTTHERE FOR WHEARS OUT THE FASTEST. MTD HAS A WEB SITE FOR ORDERING PARTS AND ARE NOT HARD TO INSTALL.GOOD LUCK LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES
