Spouse pull out memory card

Normally unless it is pushed the card will not release but if this was pulled out it is possible that the card holder or the card itself was damaged. So remove the card and invert the camera so as to face the slot downward to your palm . Now tap into the camera several times to extract any broken pieces from the sd card slot. If not try to see within with a card shaped probe- a credit card cut out will do- so as to free the space within. Now please counter check your card with a card reader or another camera or PC to confirm if this works fine.
If so try again or else you will need technical help to open the camera to clear the slot contacts.

No power off, nothing functions...now no power on...Battery OK.

Realistically, you have done all that you can. Your camera was only designed to last a maximum of about five years so it's lasted amazingly well. Very few digital cameras last much past their 5th birthday.

The only fix is to let it rest in peace in the nearest electronic waste recycling bin and to replace it. Diagnosing faults on a dead camera requires specialist knowledge and tools and usually partial disassembly. This labour alone exceeds the residual value of your camera. Even if the fault could be diagnosed it's highly unlikely that any spare parts will be available, and even if they were you run the constant risk on such an old digital camera of another sudden major failure (usually the ccd (image capture) chip, or the zoom lens mechanism.

Sorry, but the only sensible option is to divert any intended repair funds to the purchase of a new replacement model, but don't expect it to last as long as your Optio 555 has done.

I hope that my reply has still been of some use to you, all that I ask in return is for you to take a moment to rate my answer. If there's anything in my reply which requires further explanation then please add a comment and I'll endeavour to modify my answer to meet your comments.

Does the Pentax Optio 55 take the scan disk 8gb

NO! its maximum is 2gb. Also using high capacity cards slows the recovery down between shots, stick to smaller value cards for speed of access

Distorted color on image

You might have "color filter" settings. Turn the digital filters off. Here is what manual at p72 says. "You can take pictures using digital filters. The filters consist of color filters such as red, blue and green, a soft filter that produces a fuzzy effect. Color filters Eight colors, black-and-white, sepia, red, pink, violet, blue, green and yellow, are provided for the color filters. When you select a color filter in the Digital Filter mode, the display on the LCD monitor is filtered with the selected color, and the pictures are taken in that color."

Optio 555

Hi,

Is the lens totally stuck? Does it even move a little? Did you try to power cycle the camera?

555 battery life problem/question

Before you conclude that my camera and battery are also misbehaving, I would point out that I have had the camera turned on a lot as I fiddled with focus, zoom, menu settings, more focus and zoom, etc, etc. There there is simply LCD viewing time to look at pictures I have taken, playing with in-camera editing features, more viewing, zooming in and out during review mode, etc, etc. Then there is downloading a few pictures at a time, which probably carries with it some USB overhead each time I connect and disconnect. So, in my opinion, I have not given the camera a fair trial of battery performance yet. Some day, I hope to go out and shoot at least a 256k memory card full of pictures before I have to recharge. Or maybe a few card's worth of photos to get that 400-600 shots per charge.

Optio 555 Battery Compartment cover problem

My Optio 450 has the same type of cover and I am surprised how tough the cover is. I thought it would have broken by now. I suggest a call to Pentax would answer your question about getting it fixed. Alternatively, just leave it. The Plastic hinge should keep it closed

Focus problem with optio555

I think you have a defective camera. I have the 555 and none of my pictures ever look out of focus like that. Especially since those are outside with lots of light. They should be crystal clear. The colors don't look too goood either. Have you just taken it in P mode and let the camera choose all the settings? Have you possibly set some settings that have changed what the camera came with?Something is not right.

Pentax Optio 555 LCD screen blank problem

No I don't believe it is your shutter, more than likely it is a LCD Screen problem. I would suggest you take your camera back to the shop where you purchased the camera and have it serviced under warranty. I had a customer with an Optio 550 come in and it looked like every shot was taken through 'venetian blinds' and the problem was with the LCD Screen and the camera was sent back to Pentax and repaired under warranty.

AWB problem on 555

I noted that situation, but was my fault because i've been using Bulb or tungsten in outdoor pictures...!!! AWB works fine most of the cases except in some indoors where i have to use manual WB. Please be aware that if you have enough indoor light could be a good idea to disable the flash, try and error......
