The S50 works with SD cards. Your new 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Hi there - I just experienced this problem with a Pentax Optio S30 (it appears to be pretty common). The fix I discovered (that works), is to insert your batteries (make sure they're fresh), and then press and hold the "on" button plus "Menu" button, together at the same time. Hold until the firmware resets (a message will pop up on screen and the camera will reset). Voila! It works again for as long as the batteries are in and operational. Also note that in my case, if the batteries are taken out, I have to go thru the reset process again, but at least I have the camera back up and running. Hope this helps others!!

After reading other solutions on this same error message, I decided to follow the advice of one that did not require taking it to the shop and having it repaired. I hit the barrell against the table with two good whacks, and it the error message disappeared. The zoom now works and so does my auto focus and manual focus. Problem solved, believe it or not. I held my breath because I was scared I would break it, but now it's fixed.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Problem: dust in the gaps near lens which makes it jammed. Effect: the sceen shows blk color. Solution: just blow over it or vaccum it.

This is usually because the USB cable is shorting. Looks like an issue with the internals of the camera

Try to charge the batteries or use new batteries as specified by the manufacturer.

Lock in the focus first by pressing the shutter button half-way until you hear the "beep" and then press the rest of the way for an instantaneous shot.

The symptoms you described are normally power related. First make sure that your batteries are fully charged - batteries that are more than a year old will frequently not accept or hold the charge needed to operate the camera. Second, check the contacts on the batteries and inside the camera. Rub them with a soft, dry cloth to remove any corrosion that may have formed on them, then recharge the batteries for several hours. Make sure that you get a firm price, not just an estimate, before you commit to anything. Take the camera for professional repair. It's probably a manufacture fault, or a transport damage.

You need to format the card in the camera. This will erase it so download any pics first using a card reader if necessary.

It looks like you cannot print the date directly from the camera but you can do it using other options.

How can I print the date on my pictures? You can print the date on your picture using a DPOF compatible printer or at a printing service or by using the provided software ACDSee for PENTAX.
