S 5i Question: What are the best settings for quick pics
Hi:
Let's go by parts... :)
You want to print your photos in 8 x 10 inches without bluring some areas on the picture... in Europe we talk about centimeters. It's something like 20 x 25 centimeters. If you want the picture to be with the best quality for printing, then you have to set your image resolution in, at least, 300 dpi (dots per inch) - this you have to do with software, like Adobe Photoshop CS2.
For you to change the resolution of your picture to print with that size without losing any quality, you have to have a picture with, at least, 3000 x 2400 pixels. So, it's better for you to take pictures with the highest quality in your camera, 2560 x 1920, and still you loose some detail.
When you have a picture with the resolution 1024 x 768 taken by any normal camera, you will get a resolution of 72 dpi (the same resolution that pictures in the Internet or monitors have.
When you print it at your size, 8 x 10 inches, the computer or the printer, one of them is going to change the resolution of your pictures. That process is called "interpolation" and it means that some pixels are generated with middle colors.
It's dificult for me to explain the process without showing images but I think that if your search through Google engine you will find lost of pages talking about it... maybe one day I can post in my site about that subject ;)
If you have any question about what I tryed to explain just post again ;)

Black Screen
Is there no image at all?
Or if you look carefully can you see fient images on the screen.
If you can then the back light has failed orv a oconnector has come loose.
If this is so - then try squeezing the camera body at the base of the screen- or with it switched off and the batteries out give it a sharp slap into your other hand. This may restore contacts.
If no luck - then by all means checkout a repair price with Pentax.
But it may be worth while investing in a new camera with better spec.
LED BLACKED OUT
Could be a problem with the CCD circuitry. You will need to get it serviced, I'm afraid.

Read the manual- you have somehow initiated this feature to prevent removal of existing images.
There may be a key/padlock symbol button on the body or a similiar instruction on the menu screen.
There is usually a comprehensive manual in PDF on the disk to supplement the booklet.
Saving the pictures to my computer
Try copying it again from your camera to your PC. If you browse it in your camera do you still see the images? If you do see the images, it is just a copy problem...
Replaced LCD but no image appears
There are several different types of flex cable clamp arrangement. In some the clamp goes over the cable and others underneath, it is easy to forget which way the cable went! So check how the cable is seated and look carefully at the connector. Often if the cable goes over the clamp it will be grooved. Also when you removed the cable did you slide the clamp out or just pull the cable? It may be that the clamp is actually preventing the cable from being replaced. I use a pair of fine nosed tweezers to push on both ends of the clamp to release it. CAUTION! the clamps are very fragile and once broke virtually impossible to repair.

You should be able to get the software from the manufacturers website. Most manufacturers keep the software up there for free all you have to do is download.
Otherwise I personally prefer to use a USB card reader. All you have to do is unplug the memory card from the camera and insert it into the reader. The computer then sees the card as a jump drive.
The card reader is much easier in my mind because you don't have to learn the less than fabulous software most manufacturers use for their cameras.
S5i won't turn on in Capture mode
Hi Aunty Edna.
I had exactly the same problem with my S5I 4 weeks ago. Went out and bought another camera then decided had nothing to lose by doing heart segury on S5I. Found it has a watch battery soldered to board under memmory card holder which was flat. I replaced that with a similar battery and it fixed the problem. Its not an easy job but if you know someone good with there hands it would take about an hour.Hope this helps.

Optio S5i - Memory card poor contact
I have never seen an SD card based camera with a memory card contact issue. This doesn't mean thats not whats wrong, however it is more likely that it is the contact between the SD card housing and the board that it is mounted to. Either way these cameras are fairly complex inside and unless you have good mechanical aptitude you might be taking your camera's life into your hands.
100GPB is way high for a minimum labor charge, try to find a provider who will either evaluate it for free or a low minimum labor charge. This repair would cost around 125 US total at my shop.

Optio s5i Lens Stuck Problem
You can try removing the battery and leaving out overnight then putting it back and charging it up then try the power. This has worked for some people but not all.
View images on TV
Hi again:
About the black and white pictures on the TV... not normal I think... I have never seen your camera model but a common thing can happen to any camera!!
Have you already tryed to connect the camera to your TV using a AC Adapter (D-AC8 in your case)?
Are the connections Ok? You're connecting following the manual instructions?
If you don't have it download it... :)
